They've got TVs now in the checkout lanes at the store...

I'm not sure when this happened.

I was at Meijers last night, and I got the pleasure of watching "ABC Checkout" while waiting for my turn to put things on the conveyer belt.

The sound was really good as odd as that seems to me, and the picture was nice too. Wide screen LCDs.

Wtf, so you can literally go an entire day without having to hear your inner dialect. There will always be a TV, Radio, or mp3 player to drown out your own ideas.

Edit: I will say that I liked watching a couple minutes of tv better than reading about Jennifer and Bradly again. :|

You know, what happened in your head when you typed your post.

Unless you speak out loud everything you post.

A multi-billion dollar chain would not do it purly for your entertainment. They do it to keep your mind off of the total price you are about to pay. Think about it... most Americans get a bad impression about a grocery store or gas station mostly from the prices they pay for the product.

This is similar to the tactic used to calm cows while they are being led to their slaughter.

1984 anyone?

What does it have to do with 1984?

I think they think that Big Brother can watch you through the screen as well.

Or that "Big Brother" is telling us what to do constantly and we don't even relize it.

there is one store that we occasionally shop at that has added these LCD TV things, but they mainly play advertisements, not entertainment

i think the store is "Bi-Lo"

There are also ads on the screens, so they're getting paid to have it there.

Wandering through the store compairing prices, getting pissed off, finally gathering all the goods and heading for the lanes eager to get out...

Then the happy screen speaks to you to make you feel good about your purchase, because the checkout person doesn't give a fvck at all. Then it's all worth it?

btw, my checker-outer didn't even say hi. Nor look me in the fvcking face. Just said my total. :|

Ah well.. he could have been having a sh!t day. Nice timing though, with me and my first checkout lane TV expirence...

Only in America can you stock up on childrens toys, lamps, firearms and alcohol in the same place while watching TV waiting to check out.

God bless the USA.
