Somehow I doubt they will settle for following the original script. I foresee Tom Cruise and Will Smith blowing up the UFO, Gort going on a road trip with Tom Green and discovering his inner widget, and Klaatu will get arrested by INS during a raid on a Wal-Mart.

Why does Hollywood insist on remaking movies that don't need to be remade?

Because Hollywood, for the most part, is completely out of new creative ideas.

Klaatu is an illegal alien. He'll get free medical care and a job.

I thought the new War of the Worlds was awesome... But I DO agree that hollywood is out of ideas, it's really sad.

Just look at the new Rear Window hack-job, "Disturbia".. ::rolleyes::

I agree that its because hollywood is mostly out of ideas, but IMO at least - there are a lot of movies I'd really like to see get remade. I consider Superman Returns a remake and it was horrible, but I was hoping it was going to be good. War of worlds, as already mentioned, was obviously 10000x better then the original. Personally I can't stand the really really old movies, so King Kong was another that I liked.
