They should just rename Farcry 2 --> African Safari

I don't like to bash this game entirely because it does have some elements that I have never seen in a first person shooter. Obviously, they spent a lot of time with the graphical elements of the game. The grass moves with the wind. Rocks, rusty old cars, light elements. It seems they spent a lot of time in Africa. I notice they made the game a realistic as possible. However, a lot of these elements seem to take the fun away from the game.....

1. You spend 90% of the time maneuvering your jeep in the African wilderness.
2. You can only carry 3 weapons.
3. Enemies keep re-spawning!!!!!!!
4. Map is way too big.
5. The whole Malaria thing makes no sense in the game. It's like another extra quest you have to do.
6. Weapons don't follow feature of weapon (e.g. I bought a dart rifle; I bought it because it's supposed to be quieter, so that people can't chase you after you kill their buddies. It however, has the same effect as a regular sniper rifle or throwing a grenade!!!!
7. Difficult to see your enemies. You run into a camp and kill the obvious. The other's hide. They snipe you from various hidden locations. Sometimes the only way to find where they are is wait for them to shoot you and follow the arrow.

Enemies re-spawn? You mean suppose I clear a camp full of enemies and then sometime later come back into the same camp there will be enemies there again and again?

Unfortunately, yes. The game was more of a grind-fest than some JRPGs. I quit playing a friend's copy after several hours trying to see if it got better :(

That should be a little annoying. I mean, do all the hard work of getting rid of enemies only to have them re-spawn when you come back to the same place. I would guess it gets pretty tedious on the higher difficulty levels.

It's beyond annoying. Heck, often you can see them spawn in. It's not even some time later. It's like within 15mins of game time. If you drive past an outpost a block or so and come back, there will be a full contingent ready to greet you.

What's even worse is if you clear out the baddies. If you don't shoot them right they will grab their pistol and half-dead take pot shots at you.

That is my main gripe about STALKER: SHOC. I hate respawns.

Yeah but re spawning is the whole point for Stalker at least if not for FC2 as well. I know Stalker AI has a balance of mutants and NPCs throughout the game and that's what I find to be fun personally. I remember visiting Cordon again after the second time I went to Prypiat and the rookie village was full of Mercs that starting shooting at me. Was a nice surprise. Basically the game gives you what you want(just like the Wish Granter heh), the more mutants you kill the more appear after you leave the area. The same goes for bandits. You can alter the odds by giving the stalkers at the important points different/better weapons. Try droping an G36/scoped Abakan with a full clip onto them and they will take it and never run out of ammo, increasing the chances for them to stay alive.

Fc2 isn't the same though, but the re spawning is understandable if you consider that you ARE in a limited area, unlike in FC1 where you were moving down a path. Now they could probably work on the frequency of the re spawns, settle it at a day difference or so, but without it the game will be just abt the diamonds.

Agreed, if there you have to have re-spawning then at least have a a significant time difference working. Otherwise it'll end up being frustrating at times.

For me FarCry 2 was the biggest disappointment of 2008, for three reasons:

1) Because the FPS genre is my favorite and I don't like it when I see any FPS failing, but I'm biased due to my preference for that genre of course.

2) Because it has TREMENDOUS potential, more so than even S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and that potential hasn't been exploited by the developers themselves, what a shame.

3) Because the decision to include Malaria is about the stupidest decision to have ever been taken for pretty much any first-person-shooter I can think of, I would dare saying that it's even more idiotic than the trend developers have to tell the players what to shoot at and where to look at by making interactive/important objects glow just to make things easier and take us for people who cannot and don't want to think because they think that thinking for us is boring and we are mere pawns, yes, forcing Malaria on us is even more stupider than that.

But, yeah, other than that the sounds ARE great.

I really like FC2. It has some flaws, but it does some things better than most FPSs.

I enjoyed it also. Especially on insanity level. It's difficult to predict what the NPCs are going to do in different circumstances, so you can expect only to have lots of problems while clearing a base. Plus the mortars really get bitchy:D

1. Change the difficulty level to higher. I dare you to drive 50% of the time. I bet you'll probably start using the bus/walking/boat wherever possible.
2. That's a plus actually.Gone are the days of 100kg of equipment on a guy sprinting his way to finish. Nowadays UT, Quake only have that
3. That's annoying but it can be worked out by the devs by increasing the re spawns.
4. This comes because of the previous point you've made. It's a annoying to go half way through it because of the constantly filled outposts. They should really think again the frequency of the re spawns.
5. Realism. In truth you can't get near a swamp without having this risk. They could have made a pharmacy or a general store available rather than having special ops missions to be able to retrieve a freaking aspirin.
6. It works but you have to be really careful for the others not to see the guy falling. They can't possibly hear the gunshot. Try wounding them rather than killing them and sooner or later all the others will come to help the guy lift and you can kill them one by one. You'll need a sniper though
7. That's too much, you're right. They seem to spot you through walls and s**t. Stealth kills are next to impossible although a knife can't be as loud t o use as an AKM.:disgust: Definitely bad. It gets worse on higher diff.

The only thing that has really bothered me about the game so far has been #3. I just want to find a mod that keeps those outposts clear. It would be better IMO, if there were no car patrols, and the outposts had 10-15 guys at each. That would make it much, much harder to clear them out, but the reward would be that once you were done, the outpost would never be manned again. I guess that takes away from the realism, but so does having the outpost re-manned right after you clear it out.

#7 is awesome because it's realistic AI. If you were at an outpost in the Sahara and saw one of your buddies dropped by rifle fire, would you sprint out into the open, or would you take cover and try to figure out where it was coming from?

I like what they've done here with that, just like I enjoyed how the mercs in FC would slowly creep through the jungle trying to uncover you. It just seemed like a realistic approach to flushing out an invader (I know most people will disagree with the FC AI comment, but I really did enjoy the way they were scripted for the most part).

So let me get this straight: you're complaining about the game because the AI is great and behaves exactly how real opponents would in life?

I guess there's just no pleasing some people. :disgust:

My biggest and only major gripe is the respawning. It doesn't have to be permanently cleared. Just take a day or so for it to refill rather than on the drive back 5 mins later.

STALKER has it right. Sure, it has respawning but nowhere near this ridiculous extent.
