Yes they did have a newcastle... It is 2.0ghz versus the 1.8ghz of the winchester sckt 939...the newcastle does not have dual channel memory controller but in most instances that 200mhz more cpu clock makes up for that and is slightly faster. The only issue will be that if you have a sckt 939 mobo this is not compatable. Also I would stay with the sckt 939 to be more directly in line with getting venice cores later and/or dual core cpus....

Are you sure they sent it to you wrong??? A guy a few weeks back had a thread similar to this and found out that was the one he clicked. AMDs setup gets rather confusing with so may chips of equal rating with differences in sckts, cache, true speed, etc....If they made a mistake they will take care of you....

k, i'm confused now...i check with cpuz and it says that the cpu is running at 1.8...i'm looking at newegg...and the box they sent me was the winchester box...and the newcastle box looks different...could cpuz be telling me the wrong info???
btw, how do i check if i'm running dual channel memory???i have a dfi mobo

Yep...What version are your running??? I have never seen cpuz report the wrong speed amd there is no 3000+ newcastle that equals 1.8ghz true speed...that would have to be a newcastle 2800+

Edit: I should have clarified above the 3000+ newcastle at 2.0ghz is a sckt 754...I forgot to mention that but thought the single channle memory controller may have made that clear...All single channel memory controller chips are 754, all dual channel (non opterons) are sckt 939...

kk, so there is no newcastle version of 939...so that means that i have a winchester and that cpuz is wrong???the version of cpuz i have is 1.23...and it also won't display the memory option...everytime i click on it a error sign pops up...

AFAIK, they didn't make 939 NC cores, only 754, such as the one I'm running in my rig.

The newcastle 939 core chips like shim is suggesting are the ones with 512kb of l2 cache...The 1mb l2 version chips are clawhammers....Shim is right!!!
