They downgraded the GPUs in the iMac?

They used to have an M290MX but now it's a Geforce 750M with 1GB of VRAM? That's worse than the GPU in the MacBook Pro! Are they phasing them out or something?

The retina iMac still has a decent GPU, but not really compensating for the 14 million pixels.

Come on, Apple. D:

M290MX? I assume you mean the 775M/780M high-end GPU options.

You are correct in your assumption that the non-Retina models are being phased out. I have a Retina and the screen is stunning.

According to Wikipedia and everymac.com, the M290X was ONLY ever available on the Retina.

However, you used to be able to get a 775m and 780m in the 27" non-Retina, that option is gone, apparently as of May 2015 (per everymac).

I don't think they've really touched the iMac in 2 years other than discontinuing those higher tier 27s.

Maybe that's what I was thinking of, the Geforce 680MX.

That was on the LAST generation iMac. The current gen has 7xx series nVidia cards, and formerly you could configure the top-end 27" past the 750m, but they removed those options, for reasons unknown.
