Already, New Jersey legislators are pushing a bill that would block the state from outsourcing public jobs overseas. This has to be down nationwide

Let's boycott

"It's definitely a cultural change to use foreign workers," says Sivaramakichenane Somasegar, Microsoft's vice-president for Windows engineering. "But if I can save a dollar, hallelujah."

There's all you need to know. If they can save a dollar, your job goes out the window.

Just means as individuals we need to make our skill set that much more attractive, or not expect the premium wages we are now receiving. It just makes business sense that if you can get the same quality work for half the cost, you do it. I wouldn't blame or boycott any business for that.

totaly agreed

Most of these people they bring in for other countries work more efficiently and for less money, from a company's eyes that sounds good to me. Its not their fault if some americans are too lazy.

Umm. These people aren't immigrants. They are foreign nationals living overseas.

I don't think making skill sets more attractive can help in this situation. The issue is that these companies can outsource overseas for 50-60% cheaper (or more) than getting the same job done over here. Expecting premium wages is one thing, but 50-60% less is too much to give up. Even if US workers were willing to settle for less, they could never come close to what these people are getting paid overseas. At that point none of these jobs are paying close to the cost of living in the US, and some damn near would put you below the poverty line. One guy in that article was happy with his $10,000 a year job designing phone chips. That is probably anywhere from a $40,000-$80,000 a year job in the US. How can US workers compete with that?

Now you are seeing what its like to be a factory worker in this country. Pretty soon we will all be working at mcdonalds and walmart for $5.75 an hour.

We need to specialize in areas where foreign countries can't match us. If they can design phones far more cheaply than we can, then we will have to invest in industries that these foreign countries can't beat us. Besides, right now it's cheaper for an Indian to do that work, but sooner or later we'll have to hit an equilibrium point where the cost of hiring an overseas worker and a domestic worker are the same. We'll adapt, as we always have. That's the hallmark of the capitalist system.

You will all loose your jobs before me cause we make things that can't be outsourced for security reasons but I'm sure my pay will decrease over time due to the influx of other skilled workers from the business and other high-tech manufacturing sector who arte laying off:(

Anyway this is why I always say buy american but not many will listen cuz all they think of is thier bottom line and today, not how it will affect them tomorrow. Every other country is very nationalistic/protectionist in thier purchases and trade practices, for good reason, they don't want to be like Mexico or another third world. On the bright side if you own stock in some of these fortune 500's it will go up in the short run. Another positive is they will all come back when we are willing to work as cheap as someone in shrilanka or india. I donno about you but I can't survive on those wages nor in the slave like conditions they work under,.

Ok now I am in need of some advice, and I'm sure many others are thinking the same thing. I am a junior in High School, and am wanting to work in the computer field. In lieu of this new info, what is the most profitable section of the computer field to go into?

I would start a new thread If I were you. The field from my inderstanding is very saturated right now. Try a sevice professsion like Dr, lawyer or MBA. Hard to ship someone abroad when they need a heart transplant so you'll still have a JOB here :p

Metalloid, go into the rubber sidewalk business. It won't be too long and we will need them in all the major cities of industry to prevent our best and brightest from killing themselves by jumping out windows to the streets below.

We will. of course, be able to referse this trend when the corporations discover the US has become a fourth world nation of hungry savages willing to work for a piece of bread.

The only thing important in life is profit.
