Sadly, I understand they have an issue with multiplexing the fiber in apartment complexes with central phone systems. FiOS is out for me for the time being.

What is FIOS?

Fiber Optic Internet Service

30mbps and up in your home from what I understand.

Depends on how much you want to shell out. I think the most basic package was like 5mbps down 2mbps up.

http://www22.verizon.com/content/consum...ges+and+prices/packages+and+prices.htm

The key being the 2mbps up.

as you said, the key being 2 mbps UP.

i'm leaning towards 5/2 and when i need additional bandwidth i'll go directly to 30/5.

Then charge them for nightly backups:D

While Verion has a hold on the wireless market, they don't have a hold on the consumer internet access market, so you will be free to do what you like, unlike on their wireless network:(

How much data?

How much data?

most clients backup on average 3 gb / night.

i don't charge them separately, it's just part of my annual service contract with them.

Thats good then if your neighbor can't pig back on your connection

That means everybody gets the full speed. Doesn't sound like anybody will get half of their UP to 30MB connection.

anyone ever seen a rollout plan for verizon? Like what cities they are adding and when? I can't find any information like that at all on the web. Any verizon employees reading this thread?

Suburbs and greater cities with rich people will get it first

Except Seattle, we get everything last. Except grunge. And fish.

Stupid Verizon didn't even put DSL in my area because "eventually" we'll have FiOS (northern Montgomery County in Md.)

Why would they put DSL now... when FIOS will replace it in a few years

Your eventually will be a lot sooner than my eventually though.

I live in PG, near the PG-Montgomery border. I think we'll get FIOS around 2010.

where do you live?
Zip code 20904. Comcast has a monopoly on broadband here, and their price of $57.95 (non-cable TV customers) proves it.

I loathe your existence.

waggy: I want it. I want it tomorrow. Verizon DSL is no longer feasible for my house because (IMO) our phone lines are flaky and I'm getting DHCP errors on every reboot, making my connection incredibly inconsistent. Calling Comcast tomorrow, but only staying with them until Verizon tells me FIOS is coming.

Nuts to telephones!
