The question is:

Discuss the ways in which the issue of private property figured-both directly and indirectly- in the arguments put forward witihin English political thought during the first half of the 17th cent.

My thesis statement is as follows:
This essay will contend that English political thought during the intial half of the 17 century was marked by successive direct and indirect attemps at both supporting and countering the dominant ideology and traditional legitimacy associated with the functional and derivative aspects of private property, whether embodied in fixed real estate or liquid pecuniary interest.

Thank you in advance

your thesis statement is too complex and sounds a little pretentious. narrow your statement down, unless you actually plan on writing 50 pages of stuff

Remove "This essay will contend..." Reword it.

"English political thought during the intial half of the 17 century was not marked by..." or something to that extent. Other than that, I have no idea what the hell you're talking about. lol. I'm just going to pretend it's right.
