I hate people who write checks at the supermarket....they hold up the line and it always takes forever

for some reason Trader Joe's gets more crazys then most places

the woman ahead of, looked mid-40's, whipped out a check book and i knew it was on...her bill was $35.76...but she refused to write a check for that much, instead she wrote a check for $35.00 saying she likes to keep her checkbook even and not have change left over...so she wrote it for $35 and then gave him $1 extra for the change.

she kept saying she doesnt like having to add cents when balancing her check book

DIE! DIE! DIE! STAB! STAB!

Once... about 7yrs ago... I was down south and on the 10 items or less some guy bought a pint of milk.. a pint... He them proceeded to whip out a check book....

We were in a REAL hurry and I handed the cashier to pay for the guys milk.... He looked at me and said.... You OBVIOUSLY arent from the south...and I replied obviously not, but I carry more than a dollar cash with me at all times...

And i smiled and he took his milk and left.

I probably would not ever do that again... but when he pulled out a checkbook for a pint of milk... everyone on the line groaned and rolled their eyes.

:)

edit: I dont mind people paying by check.. but I at least expect them to have it all filled out except the amount before it is there turn to pay... but more times than not... the people who wait until the very end to write a check are also the ones that just stand there and dont bag their own groceries.

if you already waited for them to ring up 2 carts full of food you can wait 20 seconds longer
Because a credit/debit card is faster. There's no good reason why we should have to wait any longer than necessary - if there's a more efficient way to do something, do it.

Why do women love writing checks so much? We were at the veterinarian's the other day and my gf wrote a check for our cat's checkup...the check/ID reader thing was acting up, so the guy said "I'm going to have to enter this manually. It may take a while." I told my gf to give him her debit card instead and she wouldn't...she couldn't explain why either. I can understand if you want to balance your checkbook, but hell, give them the card and write the amount down in your ledger as a debit...it's not that difficult!!!

kinda hard to use a debit/check card when your bank doesnt offer them, and putting it on a credit card is stupid, if i have the money in my checking account im gonna use it

WTH does being from the south have to do with it?? I guess I'm obviously not from the south either.
But yea, check ... especially for small stuff (< $20) drive me nuts. Carry some damn cash.

probably cause i was in such a hurry... and he probably thought it was rude of me to hand the cashier a dollar for his milk. A check for a pint of milk... sheesh i will never forget that.

Meh ... put it on the CC and get 30 days of float on it.
I rarely use checks ... daycare, taxes, car registration, once-in-a-blue-moon bills that I can't be bothered to set up my online bill payment for.

the only thing i use checks for are payments for rent/utils to the roommates, otherwise, its all cash and debit card for me, no reason to carry that big check book around when it gets nothing extra benefit over a checkcard

why would you not use a credit card? it would let you float the money for an extra month and earn interest on it instead of giving it away right away. checks have no place outside of envelopes.

I think his bank's biggest customer is the guy in town with the most pigs on his farm, so I don't think they're in a rush to join the 21st century.

I was standing in line when a woman wrote a $5 check.
Then she wanted to write it for $10 and get $5 back. "Is that ok?"
Then she wanted to write it for $15 and get $10 back. "I already have the 5 written down."
Then she started a new check with the $10 thing. "I really only need $5"
Then the $15 idea made more sense to her. "Well, the kids could use $5 themselves"
