My cousin is here from Switzerland. She bought a laptop at best buy and we're wondering if she can just change the cord from the adapter to the wall since the specs seem like they might be similar. I thought I would ask on here so someone who actually knows can answer. I've taken pictures of the specs and the ends.

Both adapters
New adapter
Old Adapter
Plugs

Thanks in advance!

the HP branded is 18.5volt, 3.5amp
the ASUS is 19v, 3.42amp

it should be ok, .8amps difference it not going to short out the laptop. make sure the polarity on the output is the same though.

Yeah should be fine, 0.5V difference should not matter too much. May use a little more current though.

Are you doing this just because of the plug difference? If so, then just buy an adapter for the plug. Most power bricks are world compatible. They will do all the work in converting the voltages correctly, so you have no guess work to do. Just see if the old adpater says 120-240V (that link is broken in your op).

edit: saw the first pic....it is world compatible.
