These banana trees (weeds!) are crazy.

We have these banana trees planted around our apartment complex. Every year they cut them down at the base and within a few months they are 15-20 feet tall. Now I know why.

The landscaping people came by this morning and cut back the banana trees (they grow like weeds and keep spreading outward). So I go outside to check the mail and the center portion of the stalk where it has been cut has already grown upward over 1.5". It is unbelievable.
 
Mine does the same thing when I cut it back, it's awesome. Every year I can expect some crazy growth, takes some of the monotony out of working on my yard 🙂

Ah hah! So that's why God made bananas that shape! It's not to fit easily into your palm, though I suppose it would save your palm from a little abuse. Wow, that really is intelligent design. I think I'm going to have to go to church, just to tell the priest/minister/whatever the reason I converted. Incidentally, maybe I'll also wind up curing the "sexual" problem involving priests and children.
 
how does this work, wouldn't the soil be depleted nutrients/various other things needed to grow that fast?
