Yeah very unprofessional looking. They're going about it all wrong. If this was meant to get people to subscribe then it has only motivated people like me not to. I'd feel like a fool giving in to this.

I didn't think advertising worked anymore... at least not on the kind of folk who visit here.

I find these products tempting. I badly need a CPU Cooling Fan an AMD Barebones & More and a CPU Coolers.

If they slap some 10 off 50 purchase special links in those ads then they would be good ...... but that would violate forum rules wouldnt it ?

if they are a joke i ain't laughing. Ummmm..if you move your browser to the left you still have all that space on the right, still won't get you a full screen.

i think everyone needs to suck it up. given the reaction to the ads, its obvious anand bleeds some money for all this bandwith. what happened to the good ole days of wishing anand a happy birthday and having a sense of community? i say if you want to boycott something, go someplace else and whine there, you crying babies.

What ads? I subscribe.
All of you whiners complaining think about this:
1) Who's paying for the bandwidth? Certainly not you.
2) You've saved HOW much from Hot Deals and you've given WHAT in return?
3) Threaten to leave all you want, and good riddance to you if you do, because none of you have really contributed anything anyway.

Come on guys. We all know that a website like this really isn't profitable after a certain point. In this economy, Anand must be hurting BAD, since the business model (ad revenue commission) is essentially a failure. Let him try and maximize his profits so that this place will continue to exist!

hey, get off our backs. where the heck would this place be without us. certainly not where it's at today. Every person who visits here has given alot to Anandtech even if that person is just a browser. AT would be just another bbs if it wasn't for all the people that visit. Heck why the hell to you think companies advertise here. it's because they know people come here.

Heh. You're trying to explain this to the hot deals whiners and lurkers.. the ones who start these ridiculous arguments about the ethics of ordering 50 optical mice to sell on ebay...

Whatever anyones reasoning on subscribing is, this is going to turn a lot of people off to it just based on principle. We're all value seekers and a lot of us won't bend to pressure. In fact it only makes us more determined (in this case to not subscribed and "give in"). Any side but the left would be better.
