I recently posted about gettin a new monitor (not sure if it was closed or not), but I have a new question. I keep hearing this high-pitched humming whenever I open internet explorer and its driving me crazy. I narrowed it down to 2 monitors, both from NEC/Mitsubihi since I hear they make good quality monitors. I'm in the market for a 17" CRT or even a 19". Enough of my rambling, my question is there gonna be a difference between a "shadowmask" or a "aperature" grille. This one? or This one maybe?

I'm willing to fork out the extra $30 for the aperature one, but $170 is the price-range i'd like to keep it at.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

THe first one. Its flatscreen, the bended ones distort the image a bit too much for my liking.

Anyhow, an Aperture grill (of which all flat screen CRTs have) are two thin horizontal lines across your monitor. These help stabilize image, cripsness, clarity, refresh rate or something. The only way you'll notice it is if you put on an all white background. Otherwise, it doesn't affect anything, especailly in gaming.

The diamondtron is the best monitor you can buy, and it is easily worth the extra $40 or so. The noise you are hearing is the gun getting old, it happens, pretty annoying, isn't it? I had the same problem with a NEW diamondtron, so all monitors can be affected. Did you try a different refresh rate?

I'd disagree. Diamondtron NF Tubes (especially the new single-gun tubes) are awesome.

Tried different refresh rates, resolutions, color depths, and a sledghammer and to no avail, that horrid high-pitched buzzing was still present. I heard the Diamondtron series were good, and I like the look of it.

And does static interference really cause a problem for monitors? I have the Creative (Inspiron? or something) 2.1 speakers, and they're about 3-4 inches away from the monitor, think they're too close? I had these cheapy Benwin flat-panel speakers (looked friggin awesome for only $30) and they were right up against it. Thanks again

The diamondtron tubes are far superior to the DF series, no question. They are basically the same as trinitron (sony), but cheper. I think they are actually better quality tubes. As for the speakers, they should not be causing that noise, that is a monitor problem, not a electronic or magnetic interference problem.
