I know I've seen many posts about ppl being unhappy with their purchase of a ThermoSonic HS, because they found out the core it came with was not the one advertised.
HERE are the reviews between the solid and hollow core.

They are:

a) decieving the public by continuing to ship hollow-core review units rather than solid core units, despite their own test data showing that they made this change back in December of 2000. They also include a better fan in the review units.

b) They now claim that the solid core performs better, but that isn't the case

c) HardOCP testing is crap. Frostytech, while better, did not test iwth the Delta 38CFM fan. However, when they switched from the TT fan that comes with the retail to the YS tech review unit fan, the Difference between hollow core and solid core grew from .6C to 2.1C, indicating that the solid-core may not scale as well to a more powerful fan.

d) All of which begs the question, if Thermosonic was convinced of the solid-core's performance back in December, why are all review units supplied by Thermosonic Hollow-Core?

I wrote Azzo, where I got my hs, to see about getting it replaced as I wouldn't have paid that much for something that wasn't what was being represented, and here's their reply:

<Yes, ThermoEngine decide to use a different design for the heatsink. It kind of caught everyone off guard, especially with a few people starting rumors about performance differences on forums before they bothered to test the two. Now after all the tests are in, it seems the two perform the same with a 7k Delta fan and marginal difference with the stock fan. As far as performing as tested, the solid version does that and since the specs are within Thermosonic's original specs, there is not much to be said. Video card, motherboard, sound card and other manufacturers change their designs everyday with much less fan fare. I think this just got out of hand before people had a place to see their were basically no performance differences. We have sold close to 900 solid core ThermoEngines with just a few complaints about performance, and those came after this issue was raised on the forums and before the results of the comparisons came in.

If you have not seen any of the comparisons, check out www.hardocp.com which also links to a few more.

If you still have issues, please let us know,
