I just read at The Cold Shop that thermaltake's volcano II is excellent choice for overclockers looking for:
LOW NOISE/HIGH CFM -ONLY 31.5dBa for 36CFM FAN!!!!!!!
CHEAPER THAN CRAPPY FOP38 THAT BROKE MY MOBO PIN FASTENER
EASY TO INSTALL

Does anyone actually have this HSF yet? Was it really easy to install? Is it any good?

I have heard that it really does not produce 36CFM. This was from people who also had a FOP38 and felt the airflow of each HS/F. However, I cannot say it positively because I've never had either of the HS/F's.

I had the FOP38 cooler, but sold it because it was too noisy :D

Today I received my Vulcano II and it is really quiet and has good temps...

Does it have nearly the airflow of the Delta "black label" fan (46 dB and 38 CFM) as it claims?

jcab, when you say good temps, just by how much of a difference was there, and which one was the better performer in your case?

Why is the mini super orb on the top of this guys list?

And from what I have read the CFM claims unfounded, moving air creates noise, and this fan does put out it's claimed dB but NOT cfm. While it does do an ok job, the fop 38 and other fans like it are still better at what fans do, cooling.

I just got in a Fleabay auction for Volcano II for $18 shipped (actually $17.99). It is dutch, so I'm hoping I get it... but anyways.. I was keen on this after reading two different review on it. I like the price, too.

EDIT: I'm sure I'll probably pay a few bucks more, but I had some PayPal cash I wanna use up... Oh well... it all averages out in the end. I get snookered here and there... others get snookered here and there. ;)

From what that review states. It seems as though the volcano II is only shy 2-3degrees from the fop38. I'm currently usinga fop32-1, and i'm wondering if I just take the fan from the volcano II, and place it on my fop32-1, how would it perform? Anyone know the performance difference of the fop32-1 and fop38?

Don't get suckered by WEB site reviews; they are sometimes untrue! While the volcano 2 is an excellent value (for only $15.00), the fan does not put out 36CFM. I've compared the Delta and Everflow fans side by side. The difference is night and day. The Everflow's output is evenly compared to a YS Tech fan. The Volcano fan/heatsink combo compares to the FOP32, not FOP38. If you can live with the noise, the FOP38 cools better.

I would not suggest buying the Volcano II. I bought one....well because I am a sucker and was really curious about the thing. The fan does seem to be decent although I'll see monkeys fly before that thing is pushing 36 CFM. The heatsink is what I have a real problem with. The bottom surface of it is easily the most uneven surface I have seen on ANY heatsink that I have owned. There are the dimples that the only thing I can compare the appearance of them to is air pockets. It would take some serious lapping before this thing would have a smooth enough surface that I would dare mount it on my processor. I'd stick with the big players if you're looking for performance: Alpha, GlobalWin, Taisol, the ArtiCooler, and the Hedgehog. All in all not bad for $15 or so but definately not a huge performer.

From the research I have been doing (not much on the volcano II) I think that the fop32 is the better choice. Based on the fact that Globalwin doesn;t lie about their fans output. It's like comparing crappy stereo equipment (wattage overated) to good name brand stuff (usually under rated). To me the volcano is like the Boss Audio of the HSF industry (sh|t)!

I just want to know if it is better than my crappy CoolerMaster HSF which I am currently using....windows reports 56C while dos reports 45C.........either one i think is pretty hot for not overclocking but some reports say no! I got FOP38, but it was way tooo loud and i broke clip.....it sucks....so now im trying to go with easy to install good performance HSF

Edit: I have asus A7v133 mobo and some people say that using pcprobe adds 10C for safety purposes than original temp.

Probably about the same or a little worse...I myself have never looked at CoolerMasters but if you say it is "crappy" it is probably about as bad as the Volcano II

My Volcano 2 didn't have any physical defects like others have mentioned in this forum. However, the fan does not put out 36CFM!!! In my past experiences with Coolmaster, the Volcano 2 is slightly better. If you already own a Coolmaster, it's hardly worth the upgrade. Purchasing a higher performance fan (i.e. Delta or YS Tech) would give you better performance.

i think ive seen the volcano 2's fan descriped as "up to 36 cfm"
GJ to thermaltake for keeping quiet and not correcting all these
review sites that post incorrect cfm numbers for their product.
