I was looking at the installation guide of the thermaltake volcano 7, and i noticed that it did not mention any use of thermal grease or thermal compound.

Does it seem a bit wierd to you guys?

The first step in the installation guide is to remove the protective film from the thermal pad already on the bottom of the heatsink. This pad can be used in place of thermal grease.

For better thermal transfer I believe it is usually recommended that you carefully remove the pad that comes on the bottom of the heatsink, and use a good thermal grease instead.

Thermal pads are almost always inferior to thermal greases (in terms of cooling). You might want to check out Antec's Reference Silver which seems to be the exact same thing as Artic Silver... well close enough :). It's found at your local CompUSA or Best Buy for about $10 :(.

Murphy55d, how hot does your CPU run? I find that very strange that someone is not using thermal grease (No offense). I also find it very strange ThermalTakes guide doesn't suggest any Thermal Grease.

Not that hot, since I dont have my 8k7a anymore, I dont have PC Health which shows the temp at startup/restart, but it was usually around 47 c after some gaming.
