Hi everybody,
i just got my new volcano 7+ HSF and wanted to share my impressions and
testing results with you.
Before i had the Tiger Miprocool which kept my system
AMD Thunderbird 900@1000
3x128MB PC133CL2 Infineon
5 Harddisks IDE all IBM@7200rpm
4 CD and DVD drives
Abit KT7 Raid Motherboard
at 40° C idle and around 50° C under full load.
Yesterday i installed the volcano 7+ using some Arctic Silver III.
Installation went without a hitch. The HSF fits tight, although it hooks just
on one nose of the socket.
I tried all three speed settings of the fan and measured the temperature
using the onboard diode with VIA Hardware Monitor reading the results.
Ambient temperature was always 25°C and never exceeded that, case was
closed.
Idle temperatures were
Fan low setting: 35°C
Fan med setting: 32°C
Fan hi setting: 29°C
for putting the CPU under "pressure" i used the program NERO with the
SVCD plugin to convert a MPEG1 file to a MPEG2 file. CPU load was
at 100% constantly. OS was W2K Pro.
Fan low setting: 41-42°C
Fan med setting: 38°C
Fan hi setting: 36°C
At medium setting i just hear the fan working, at low i really cannot hear
it, cause the case fans are louder anyway
The hi setting is just not acceptable anymore......
I am really impressed with this fan and can only recommend it to everyone
who wants great cooling without a thunderstorm blowing through his/or her
case.
Have a nice day..... and greetings from cold Austria!!!!!
