Well I'm considering buying this VGA PSU, and If someone got it I need some advices.

Right now the specs of my rig are as follows.
  • P5NE-SLI Motherboard.
    Core 2 Duo 6750.
    1GBx2 Patriot DDR2 800mhz.
    XFX Geforce 7600GT
    2 SATA Seagate 500gb HDD.
    Thermaltake XP550 NP 430w
I'm planning to get a Geforce 9800GTX+ (and a second one in a future), so that's the reason to buy a new PSU and the fact that my PSU has one 6 PCI-e connector.

Yes I know, my mobo sucks. I have no plans to overclock.
So my questions are:

  1. Will it work if I combine the XP550 with this VGA PSU?
The 9800GTX+ is an example, I just want to upgrade my VGA for something better, is any other options for my setup?
Maybe I'm getting greedy, what about the GTX 260 or GTX 280?

My other options would be a Coolermaster Real Power Pro 750W or Thermaltake Pure Power 600W, so what's better?

I'd probably get a whole new powersupply. The W0158RU is $110 at newegg, don't know what the cheapest price is but I bet it won't differ much.

For $100-120 you can buy a pretty good PSU to run 2 9800gtx's. If you plan on only buying ONE GTX260 or GTX280 a decent 600w PSU will easily suffice, as long as it has the right connectors. The real power pro is a good, where are you buying btw? The 750tx is also nice, gauranteed to run two 9800gtx's, and is only $100 AR at newegg.com

Btw, 2 more things, your mobo doesn't suck that bad afaik, thing is, it's 2 pci-e slots will run at 8x speed when doing SLI, this might cause a performance hit with two 9800gtx's. As for overclocking, you should rly give it a shot, because I know the p5ne can overclock a fair bit.

I'm buying from mexico, so there's only two brands I can get, Coolermaster or Thermaltake.

Yes I know, I was planning to buy one 9800gtx+ then a new mobo, and in the end another 9800 (hoping the price will go down a bit). And for overclocking dunno I've been reluctant to try because maybe I won't see any benefits with my actual Geforce and I don't have a cooling solution to go with it.

I was considering this VGA PSU for the price, I googled (<-- lol is this a verb?) a lot trying to find some info about supporting 9800gtx+ or better, or at least somebody actually using it with no avail.

Thanks for the reply...

I would say the Coolermaster is better, unless you can get a Thermaltake Purepower RX and not just the regular Purepower.

I would just get a whole new psu. Out of the ones you listed the coolermaster is better. The purepower psus were absolute crap.

Toughpowers and purepower RX series psus are pretty good. If you can get a toughpower 750 watts it would handle a 280gtx without any trouble. I got one in my main rig (the psu is 18 months old now) and it still works great.
