Thermaltake Smart fan and Rheobus?

I recently purchased a Thermaltake Volcano 9 with a "Smart Fan". I did not get the smart fan with the "Cool Mod". I also got a Varable Speed RheoBuss from FrozenCPU. The "Smart Fan" draws 8.4 watts at max speed. The RheoBuss has 11 watt heatsinks. Im assuming that the wattage is not an issue.

My question is, do I hook the wires from the varryable speed switch that is built into my "Smart Fan" to the RheoBus or the power wires for the fan itself. I would like to use the motherboards rpm monitoring.

Thanks

You want to attach the power wires directly to the Rheo and disconnect any adjustment switches from the fan (dial and thermal). There should be a single lead from the fan with only the rpm monitoring wiring which can be plugged into the mobo to tell you the rpm settings of your fan. My rheo accepts tailed fans, so I took a 3 pin connector off of a splitter and plugged the pin leads from the Smart Fan into the plastic connector so I didn't have to mangle the smartfan's wires. If that doesn't make sense, I'll have to go home and check my connections as its been a few months since I hooked everything. They're very nice fans though once you get 'em on a leash.

Ok, cool that is what I thought. I think there is a jumper that you install where the factory rheo goes on the fan which makes the fan run full speed constantly.

Are the rheo's pretty dependable, id hate to have it poop out on my CPU fan and POOF.......

That's correct about the jumper: shorted it runs the fan at full. No info on the rheobus... avoid the nexus like the plague *shrug*.

I hooked my CPU fan's power wires up to the Rheo Bus. The only problem is that when the Rheo is in the lowest setting the fan won't start, I have to turn the Rheo to the highest setting to get the fan to start and then trim it down lower. I am not sure if I like it doing things that way.

Has anyone tried hooking the wires with the factory Rheo on it to a Rheo Bus? It seems to start the fan immedaitely when it recieves power from the mobo header regardless of the Rheo setting (using the factory Rheo).

Thanks
