The difference is the airflow and noise, and the color, too ;) They're two completely different fans.
Smart Case Fan
Smart Case Fan 2

If you want an adjustable fan, get a Y.S. Tech :)
The main problem with the smart case fans, is the noise: they're simply not as quiet as they claim. Plus they draw excessive amounts of power, and I realy question their reliabity any more.
Thermaltake is basically eye candy, all of their products (with the possible exception of their cases, but I thinkthey're ugly anyway ;)), and really don't perform as well as they claim.

i hope there not ar bad as you make it out.....;)

i bought one (smart fan #2) to use with a new swiftech..........just need a good fan , that will auto adjust with temp rise......not to worried about noise.......it looks like you have a few diffrent ways to set it up.......set it to run direct (full speed).......manualy adjust it with the reostat......or use the temp sensor that came with it....

It's not *horrible*, no, but I won't buy another one ;) the big upside to the Smart Fan 2 is that it moves more air at max speed than any other adjustable fan on the market. They are, however, louder than they claim. I have a Smart Fan 2 on my heatsink, until I get a quieter replacement together, and is modded to 7 volts with the included rheostat turned all the way down. Tt claims that the Smart Fan 2 is 17 dB all the way down, there is no way that it is even close to 17 dB now on 7 volts.

Oh, and btw, take the Tt steel grill off to reduce noise (but it still won't be 17 dB ;))
