With similar ambient, 76F lowest I'd say, probably closer to 80F in my room (19" CRT makes my room hot), with my Opteron 165 OC'd to 2.52 GHz at 1.45v It is pretty much locked at 38C, even under full load it seems to peak around 39/40C max, but generally averages 38C. I will have to say that my IHS is off my Opteron though =) I'm sure that's helping some.

luv2liv: Bummer! I heard the AM2 socket wasn't compatible with coolers for 939. That's keeping me with 939 cuz I don't want to upgrade my watercooling system.

It has no real reservoir. This seems to me to be more of a heat pipe with long pipeing.

I guess the piper has alot of water so better then a heat pipe, but with out reservior it jsut not up to water cooling standards.

With that said I might be getting it. I going to add block to my video card too and see if I can get awya with cooling off both with. The setup should be under $100 to cool both. I will let people know how it turns out.

EDIT:

Looks like Ii'm going for this instead. I might have to replace the radiator fan for a 120mm one for quieter operation.

When did watercooling rigs start needing reserviors?...
THEY DIDN'T! They do not need them! This is a fact, not a guess, not a shot in the dark!!!

Thanks OP... ordered one when it came back in stock. I hope it fits in my antec P160 case where the rear fan goes... Looking forward to having some "working room" in my case once I get my old Big Typhoon cooler out of there.

Would this thing work on a Core 2 Duo w/ ASUS P5W DH Deluxe in a p180? I was going to get the Zalman CNPS 9500 LED but if this would be better, I'll bite.

Just as an fyi, for those buying this, I'd recommend trying to install it without the provided stick-on clip for the underside of the motherboard(mobo), especially if you have a DFI nF4 board. At least in my case, I found that using the stock retraining mechanism on the underneath side of the mobo was a more wise choice than using adhesive to stick the provided one to the bottom of the mobo.

I stuck the longer/thinner bolts provided in the kit up through the bottom of the board through the 2 holes in the plastic retainer on the underside of the mobo. I then used the provided gold-colored hex nuts (the longer ones that look similar to the ones you screw into a case to mount a mobo) to keep the bolts from falling out as I installed the mobo, and to help in securing the bolts from moving too much.

Then to attach the waterblock I used the recommended clip you first mount to the waterblock to push onto the 2 bolts. Instead of using their recommended golden longer hex nuts to secure the waterblock, I instead used a couple of the smaller silver hex nuts found in the radiator mounting bag, which I didn't need. I found that if you have a 5.5mm socket it fits these just about perfectly and was an easy way for me to firmly secure the waterblock to my core. This was installed on an Opteron 165 with the IHS removed and it fits quite well.

Speedfan tells me that my Opty 165 @ 2.52GHz @ 1.44 voltz runs pretty consistantly at 38C, that's in a room with ambient at least 80F+ with a steamy 19" CRT in a smallish room without great ventilation. If you have a cooler room you're most likely to get a much better temp. I also used a small ball-shaped dollop of arctic silver 5 on the center of the core, and let the waterblock's pressure spread the compound naturally.

My box says AM2 support on a little yellow sticker. But this wont fit in my case so its going back to the egg.

Its better because it works with both your CPU and Video card.

Not everyone wants to void their Video card's warranty....

Why not? They're already voiding the CPU's :p

I used to have a big water in my rig. When it stopped running water (pump malfunction, or water bubble jam) it would heat up the cpu and crash the pc. I'm now running a Katana heatsink and fan. Actually quieter than the bigwater radiator fan, and my cpu runs much cooler too. Also, the fan and heatsink was only 20$ at newegg! Compared to when I bought my bigwater for 129$ then.

I picked up one of these and it arrived yesterday. It works great. I wanted something a quieter for the living room machine and this is certainly very much quieter than the Swifttech MCX478 that it replaced. Even at the slowest speed, it is though, a wee bit noisier than the PS fan. But it does a much better job of cooling- 5 degrees C at idle and 8 degrees C at full load at the lowest fan speed compared to the highest fan speed on the air cooled heatsink.

A note on the AM2: There was a seperate bag in the box with parts for mounting the block on the AM2. It looks like it was an addition since all the other mounting hardware was in another bag.

One question is this really any queiter than a quiet HSF combo.
Can the fan be changed to a quieter fan. I guess the real reason for this is to cool the cpu not quiet the unit.

I just ordered one a few days ago; I'll test it against my Scythe Ninja. When I get it in this week. I got it purely out of curiosity to see how it compares against high end air cooling. Will be testing on a ABIT IC7 mobo and with an Old Socket 478 2.66Ghz northwood that hits a wall at 3.5Ghz on air. If this water kit keeps the temps down ill pump the volts and go for 4.0GHz, not saying I will make it, but I will try.
