Well as the title said i would like to hear opinions about the silent boost, i've read a lot of them over the differents posts but now i want a good compilations because i'm considering buying one on these day's and i wanna be sure.
in my particular case i would use it in overclock, not the most extreme overclock, but the far i can go... it is able to do that? if not what would you choose? the thermalrights are too expensive to me... i'm not sure... and i'm also looking for a silent good cooler, of air of course... the water cooling is out of my budget, thank you all

Comparable cooling for overclocked 2500+'s

I got my Silent Boost a few days ago and am impressed. Granted, I wouldn't call it "silent" but it does a good job of keeping my OC'ed 2500+ cool (38C idle, 45C load). It's close to the Thermal right SLK-700/800 in cooling.

FYI, I think it uses a Panaflow M-series fan that is slightly louder than the stock AMD HS and fan (at least from what I can tell). Give it a try, and if it's too loud for you, you could put the Panaflow L1A 80mm on it, but I would except your temps to go up slightly.

I have to on my XP2500+

Works as advertised, I just wish they would have included a L1A fan as the M1A fan is a tad loud for my tastes. But don't get me wrong, it's not loud and it is a bit quieter than the stock XP2500+ HSF, I'm just very picky about noise. Good value cooler though.

I regret buying this and feel that I could have been served better with a Zalman CNPS-7000 mainly because of noise. I'm running my Silent Boost on a fan controller at just above half speed.

wobble ignoring the noise for a second, at full speed, does it cool well? is it suitable for overclock?

Yes, it is suitable for overclocking. The heatsink is almost like the Thermalright SLK800 so that gives you an idea about how well it performs. If the Panaflo M1A fan isn't enough, it is very easy to add higher CFM fan on top.

Have a look at this thread, it is mine and the results with the silent boost.

Actual temps:
31C------>CPU
35C------>Socket
24C------>MoBo

It will, Smart fan II@2600 and silent boost stock should be pretty similar.

Edit: remenber to buy a good thermal paste.

SilentBoost works great for me on my XP2500+. 36C or so idle and around 45C full load. I don't find the fan loud at all and a good bit quieter than the stock HSF. I have the SilentBoost running at full speed and all my case fans (4) running on a fan controller at low speed. Also have a Zalman heatpipe on my 9800pro with the OPC1 fan plugged into the 5V (noiseless) side.

I know that i must have a good thermal paste, but the price of the Artic Silver 5 here in Argentina is 13.5 USD for a 3.5gr package is it worth to buy it? I have my doubt about it... any other posibility?

Another good report on the Silentboost.

2500+@2.2ghz

37c idle
42c full load

Using the included thermal compound.

It is a good quality product. (possibly a first for Thermaltake:p)

how effective is the fan? how loud and how much air? i know the cfm and decibels, but compared to your previous hsf?

I got a similar setup, the only thing I did was to replace the fan for a vantec stealth one and even got a zalman controloer for it and made my set up silent. I can overclock my 2600XP to 2.5 Mhz and it runs at about 50 full load, but with the fan at 1500 rpms. I have 5 case funs running low.

I find it to be very quiet (the K8 Silent Boost)

As far as replacing the fan, I don't understand. The included fan has slots around the perimeter that allow airflow at the blade tips. That reduces the really high pitched vortex noise that annoys most people. The noise this fan makes is lower pitched than most. I absolutely can't hear it over the noise from my case fan or power supply fan.

As far as performance of the cooler, it can seriously move some heat. With 100% CPU loading with SETI, if I hold my palm near the heatsink fins I can feel the warm air exhausting. (cpu temp is 45C and steady). If I exit SETI, the exhaust air begins to feel cooler immediately, and CPU temp rapidly drops to 41C and below. Restart SETI and the exhaust air gets warm immediately. The thermal conductivity of this copper monster is impressive by this non-scientific test.

I used Arctic Silver 5 (perhaps a bit too much, but I'm not taking it apart when max temp is 45C)

Well some people have case and power supply fans that are quieter then yours! The fan on my Silent Boost was the loudest thing in my system, I hooked it up to a Zalman Fanmate and turned it all the way down (~5V) and it was quiet then. But I replaced it with a regular L1A since for the same noise level I could get more airflow (in my case at least)

Since my earlier post, I started playing with the Cool and Quiet option. Found that I could drop the Silent Boost fan down below 2000 rpm (its at 1739 right now) and the full load temp remains steady at 49C for hours. I have my side off and the front case fan unplugged. If not for my cheap but soon to be replaced power supply, I would hear nothing but hard drive activity. I am amazed by the performance of this ThermalTake. I spent a lot more last year on my monster Alpha but it couldn't keep my Athlon 2100+ below 55C and it made a lot of noise doing it.

Is the SilentBoost K7 as good as the K8 ?? They look the same.

People I've finally bought my slient boost as i promise, it work way better than the other i've got before but there are some questions i've got...
as my temperatures now are:
45º Idle
56º Full Load

and my configarations is:
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ Tbred A "AXDA1700"
running at: 290FSB x 11.5 at 1.65 volts
recongnized as 2000+

you would ask why is the temperature so high... me too but i think it's due to the high ambient temperature in Argentina theses days... summer... it's common to have 30º of temperature outside... inside... some more... i've not got an Air conditioning in this room and the one that is the other room do nothing for this... so... considering i've 30º as ambient temperature is 45º of idle right? considerng i'm overclocking but not too much? thank you all i happy silent lifes
