Thermaltake power supply and older Chenming case question ** Found my answer **

T2T III

OK, found my answer. Apparently, when I took out my old power supply, I removed the trim ring from the rear that holds in the power supply. Sure enough, I looked at my old power supply and realized that the ring was attached.

As Home Simpson would say: D'oh

Gear:

- Antec 850 computer case ** Edit: Antec SX-840 case.
- New Thermaltake 480 watt power supply

Issue:

- The newer power supply is of a newer format. The mounting holes do not line up with the pre-drilled holes in the back of my case that held the old power supply. Actually, the new power supply is a bit smaller - and nearly fits through the power supply hole in the back of my Antec case.

Question:

- How are these power supplies supposed to be mounted in older cases with larger openings for the older-style ATX power supplies? Does an adapter exist? Or, would I need to purchase a newer case to properly "fit" the power supply?

Thanks!! 🙂

wow, i've never heard of anything like this. i googled but i cant find a link to an antec 850 case. if it is really atx compliant then your power supply should fit just fine (you did try both ways? the mounting holes are not symmetric)
are you sure that it's an atx case and not at?

edit*************
cant find a chenming 850 case either on google.

Oops. I meant to say Antec SX-840. Here's a link to a review of one: Antec SX-840

It's definately an ATX case. Just the back-plate is designed for the older style of ATX power supplies. The newer ATX power supplies appear to be of a slightly smaller size with a different pattern for attaching the screws.
