Thermaltake GF4 cooler

In my quest for more mhz and fewer db, I'm considering replacing the buzzing fan on my PNY Ti4200. I like the design of it, as it blows air across the memory (which actually gets very hot) but the noise is driving me nuts. I'm considering getting one of the Thermaltake GF4 coolers and hooking it up to my baybus. Most of the time I would run it @ 7v, but for games I would turn it up. Would this fan @ 7v be quieter than my stock fan? Would it still be stable @ idle? I'm currently overclocking this card to 305/625.

I don't believe I can go with the giant Zalman or TT heatpipe cooler because of the size. I have a Zalman NB cooler on my southbridge and it is already very close to the HSF and ramsinks on my card.

I installed one over a year ago when I bought my GF4 4200. The stock cooler on it was complete ass. It was a total bitch to get it off. I trying freezing it, prying it, twisting it. The only thing that worked was chiseling it off with a hammer and screwdriver.

After scrapping off the core with a razor and cleaning it, I about freaked. Thermaltakes damn memory heatsinks are in 4 huge long chunks, which is totallly useless cause the memory chips go on both sides of the card, not to mention there not that big. So I had to take a band saw and cut the damn memory heatsinks to size. Afterwards I slapped it all together. It works well but the fan on it was to damn loud, so I replaced it with the stock fan from the old HSF that came with the GF4. Works well though, I can run my card at 4400 speeds no problem. I won't go higher cause I dunno if this Visiontek can take it....plus Im waiting for the 9800XT to come out..

dont get it. THe damn thing sounds like a leaf blower, louder than your stock for sure. Plus there are reliability problems with it in the long run. Get a Zalman and go passive.

My question is whether this would be quieter @ 7v than the stock fan and still provide adequate cooling. I'd turn it up to 12v when I wanted to game and noise is less of an issue.

Yes go passive.

Are you people ignoring what I've written twice? I said I do not have room for a passive cooler because of the large heatsink on my southbridge. It is too close to my AGP slot to allow a larger heatsink.

The Zalman NB32 and NB47 are both the size of the GPU. It'll take one or two PCI slots, but not the room the big heatpipe ones do. I have a 5v 92mm fan cooling mine, but I could probably manage a fully passive setup...since I can't hear the fan current near it anyway, I haven't bothered to see.
