Thermaltake Ducting Mod, any good?

Stumbled accross this on ebay and it seems like a nifty little tool, any one else used one and it it any good?

it seems it would work in theory but i wouldnt trust a review thats done by the manufacturer

the one blain pointed out seems to be more effective

They work Ok, available online from dabs. I use one on my rig see below (big pics)

i actually purchased one of these to put on my slk-800, but quickly realized that it wouldn't fit on that heatsink once I received it. I guess I wasn't thinking when I purchased it. I ended up putting it on my server which uses a thermaltake volcano 7. I didn't do much in the way of testing the temps, but I can tell you that getting a decent heatsink such as the slk-800 is more effective than another heatsink plus the ducting mod.

lol I did the same when I bought my Akasa 60-80mm fan adapter and realized there was nowhere to put it on my SK-6. And I agree, the Thermalright SK-7, SLK800 and 900 are the best heatsinks (air) in existence bar none.

that duct dropped our 1800+ w/a stock 2100+ cooler 8 degrees celsius. It does look a bit like something which should go to a clothes dryer. But admittedly the whole thing was in a case that didn't breathe well. And looks ok under a cold cathode if that's any concern.

Apart from the fact that you are supposed to attach a fan to the part you have only the grill on. The idea is that you avoid the 'dead' spot directly behind the fan.

The pic looks like it is doing nothing except looking cool.

I saw this duct from MaximumPC magazine but I did not buy it b/c it's only for 8cm back hole to 8cm cpu fan. I got a 12CM back hole to 8cm or 9cm cpu fan. Any ideas how to make it work for me?

I use the ducting to move the air away from a dead end under my desk - the case is setup so that it sucks from below and the front and blow out through the top, to stop any problems with the air hitting the underneath of my desk and cycling back down the thermaltake duct puts some forward motion to the air which inturn pushes it back out the front.

OMG what else does that thing do. How much money have sank into that rig?

well the koolance case was originally £250 when I bought it almost 2 years ago, the acrylic case was £120 and the lcd screen was £100 - but its been built up overtime. I built it out of pure boredom - I wanted an acrylic case but I like the koolance performance / quietness. But when people appreciate the work I put into it then it makes it all worthwhile (although my fiancee thinks its just a case - but my pupils like it)

Did you get the duct from dabs? i didnt think that they sold that sort of gear there.
And your case, ive seen it before, but i now have a whole college class amazed by it. I was having a discussion with about 4 of my mates about modding a pc to make it look good is no different that boy racers buying huge speakers for their cars. They wouldnt have it, so i remembered your case which i saw a week earlyier, so i logged onto AnandTech, searched for your name, and went to your site, then showed them your handy work. Their jaws dropped and they stood silent. They now think that computer modding is cool, and they all want acrylic cases now for their PCs. So excellent job on the case.
