after doing enough research to sufficiently confuse myself, I was wondering if the thermaltake crystal orb can be used to cool my chipset on a epox 8k3a mobo. though I'm not entirely stupid, I am aware it's good for cooling the chipset on video cards. :)

if it doesn't work on the mobo, do I need to even worry about cooling that chipset? if I do need to worry and the crystal orb won't work, would you please recommend a decent mobo chipset cooler?

thanks in advance!

yes, this is my first computer I'm putting together.

My brother has that motherboard. I touched the chipset heatsink and it didn't feel hot, just a little warm. I doubt it will help at all. Spend your money on something else, or if you already have the crystal orb, attach it to a video card =)

If you do use a Crystal Orb on your MB, make sure and get it lapped down through the nickel layer to the copper. Copper is the better heat conductor. ;)
It probably won't make night and day difference. But it's a little touch that's free and will make you feel better about the project.
