I found some for cheap (open box) and thought maybe it'd be a good idea to pick one of these since I plan on OCing my E4300.

Motherboard is an Asrock 4core Dual VSTA.

They'll both perform better than stock. Not so hot on value, though.

from what i've read the tower coolers are much better, but i don't think my case is deep enough to support one. newegg has the CL-P0369 (apparently called the MaxOrb) open box for $26, so I wasn't sure how good/bad an investment it would be

The New Max ORB from TT is reviewed on AT, check it out. It does pretty well.

yea it does and it looks good too but the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 beats it out and is cheaper but since OP said he might not be able to fit tower coolers than that's a good choice
