Thermaltake Bigwater 735 or something else?

I am going to be building a computer with an ASUS Striker Extreme, Q6600, and a 8800 GTS.

I was considering getting a water system, which would be my first. I have read a lot about the pros and cons of kits, and specifically the Thermaltake Bigwater 735.

I would like to have a water system because of the Q6600 being hot by itself, but I also will want to do a little overclocking.

I would like to make this build fit into a Mid-Tower. I was planning on attempting to put the 735 inside a Mid-Tower that looks like it has enough room. I know it will be a squeeze, but I want a small case that is fairly portable, and I don?t want anything attached outside.

For the time being, I don?t plan on having too much inside except a graphics card, so there should be a fair amount of room for the other water system components.

I really only want to cool the CPU, and not the GPU, or the chipsets (the striker seems to have that covered pretty well)

Also the layout of the built in mobo cooling on the Striker has me concerned about buying a big and expensive air cooler that may not fit.

What are your opinions on the 735 for my setup, or can you recommend any other custom water setups for less that $150?

Thanks,
Kevan

1. Thermaltake is cancer of watercooling world. Never buy that crap.
2. The striker uses the 680i chipset which is ALSO a big time POS compared to a P35. Get a gigabyte P35-DS3P. You wont regret that choice.

As for watercooling, if your looking at the bigwater because of the budget factor, get a thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme Lapped at SVC.com

You'll be sorry for buying the bigwater POS kit.

If your just cooling the cpu, this would perform way better then the bigwater: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/swh2licokitr1.html

according to this: ftp://download.intel.com/desig.../datashts/31559202.pdf the thermal load of the q6600 is 105W at stock speeds. According to this data: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib...computers/mcr1202b.gif the kit above should be able to handle just quad core without problems. If you start heavily overclocking though your temps will start to get progressively worse since a quad is near the max capacity of the above kit.

i wouldnt recomend any overclocking on that small of a radiator. Expecially on a quad.

Trust me, quads arent funny when overclocked. Two in my room will raise my ambients up 10C if i dont have my fan venting the warm air.

did you have a heart attack?

*twitch*

I have never owned a w/c system of my own (i've built one for someone), but I've spent so much time on the forums (what else is there to do at 2AM? Sleep? HA) that I know that Thermaltake is more like Thermalsuck. I'm spending enough on my w/c parts and case that I could buy a QX6800 instead. But I'm buying a Q6600 like you after the July 22nd price drops.

You'd be better off with a Thermalright Ultra120 eXtreme lapped unless you want to spend more than $200 on water. Listen to Aigo.

If you want a watercooling system, then you could get:
Swiftech MCR220 $40
Swiftech MCP655 $80
Swiftech MicroRes $20
D-Tek FuZion $65
Masterkleer 7/16" Tubing 15' $10
2x Yate Loon DSH-12 undervolted $7
Swiftech 120B Radbox $10

You're going to have to mount the radiator externally. But that is basically the bare minimum system you should have for a quad-core. Aigo will def give more advice.
