Thermaltake Big Typhoon with ASRock 939Dual-SATA2

Does anyone know if the Big typhoon HSF will fit the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2? I read some places that some coolers out there require some back plate or something...I already have the motherboard, and the cooler is en route. If indeed I do need a back plate, where can i get one at? Thank in advance

your board should already have a backplate. There are two different ways of installin it, the easy way, and the hard way. Don't pick the alternate (hard way) unless you have to.

I was only going to follow the directions as per the thermaltake web page... but being that I am work, when I get home I will look at the motherboard.

From what I hear the Asrock does not have a backplate shipped with it!!

The Big TT does though and you should be OK with that. Unsure about interference with say the vid card placement on that mobo though.

The heatsink on the northbridge is rather tall so it could block the Big Typhon. If not then you should be OK, since the first slot is the "Future CPU" one, which means that your PCI-e x16 is farther from the CPU (and the AGP is even farther).

I contacted Thermaltake, and they told me to contact thier parts department for the part that I need...so hopefully all is well...

Please update when you here from them. I looking into getting the same setup.

The big typhoon comes with a back plate (which I recommend using with the pads and the big size), but I had to move a cap out of the way gently to fit the top plate on my 945P-A ESC mobo. That sucker is huge !

If the motherboard has a plastic backplate then you need to remove that and use the one provided by Thermaltake. If it has a metal backplate then no need for that.

My AN8 Ultra had a plastic backplate and so I needed to remove it and use the one from Thermaltake. It's a bit of a bitch getting that HSF on there cause it's so monstrous.

Whatever you do MAKE SURE that the HSF is secured very well before installing in your motherboard in the case cause I'm pretty sure it puts a pretty large force on the motherboard cause it's so top-heavy🙂).
