Thermaltake Big Typhoon on A8R32-MVP?

Has anyone installed the Big Typhoon on this motherboard? To get the stock HFS mounting bracket off, is it as easy as removing the screws, or is it stuck on there with something other than that? How hard is it to get off so that I can install the TT Big Typhoon? Any details on this install would be helpful, as I googled and couldn't find anything about it.

I would stay away from ThermalTake personally and go with the Thermalright SI-120, which I'm pretty sure uses the stock mounting hardware.

Any idea where they stock that? I can't find it on any of the sites I usually buy from. Newegg, ZZF, monarch, Tiger, ClubIT...

SI-120>>BT. Weight, compatable with all current boards & chips. Will have better trade
or resale value. According to jmke's 107 HS round up(stickied) they perform the same.
ThermalRight focuses on doing one thing well. ThermalTake is all over the maket with
so-so fans at best and nasty, POS PSUs. Questions?? :p

Nope. Just what would the best fan pairing be to go along with the SI-120? The recommended Panaflo?

Also, is the surface that touches the chip going tobe good to go out of the box? I don't have the ability to do any lapping or anything.

The base of the SI-120 does not need lapping. It is silver in color because it's been struck
with nickel inorder to facilitate soldering the aluminum fins to the copper heat pipes.
Some may dispute this but the nickel is so thin, it's effect on heat transfer is a non-issue.

It needs no more than 50cfm to do it's work. Your call on a fan but be aware, clear plastic
LED fans offer more dBA than black plastic jobs. I dislike the Panaflos made in China, known
here as Chinaflos ;)
For a CPU HS fan it's a plus to use one with a tach/sensor feed wire. Not all three wire
fans offer this option, so be sure your selected fan does.
Throwing budget out the window as I often do for PSU & CPU fans, this is what I would use.
The two most important fans for a system are CPU first, PSU second.

Finding a good 120 fan for <$10 that has a tach/sensor wire will be a challenge. I know
of a few but they are>100cfm.

Is that new Scythe Ninja Plus worth a look? It's priced about the same as the Big Typhoon ($40), while the SI-120 is somewhat more when you factor in the fan.

I was planning to get the Big Typhoon but it seems to have some mounting issue on DFI motherboards, something with the included screws being too short.

the Scythe is huge. personally i'm not a big fan (no pun intended) of heavy heatsinks/cpu fan assemblies. after personal experience with those Chinese made Panaflows, i'm not a big fan of those "Chinaflows" either =X

i'm going to replace my Zalman 9500 for that SI-120. i just hope that my Corsair 3500LL fits under those wings without having to resort to moving them into the other dual channel slots.

It doesn't appear that the SI-120 uses the stock mounting bracket that is already on my motherboard, but I could be wrong. Anyone know if the A8N32-SLI and A8R32-MVP are ready for the SI-120 out of the box? Regardless, I am ordering up the SI-120 and delta fan tonight.

No, Si-120 uses it's own mounting. Default K8 mounting is available on AC Freezer64 Pro, Thermalright HR-01 and Ultra-90 K8 and only a few more other heatsinks with heatpipes and awesome cooling performance.

I went with your and Operandi's suggestion. :)
