Its thermaltake, its guaranteed to not be silent unless its broken - which is also a possibility.

The only fans worth buying are Panaflo L series, Nexus fans, and Yateloon sleeve bearing fans in terms of quietness and durability.

eWiz sells them for $6.95. I was going to get one while back for chassis mods (rear exhaust, etc). But, I decided on a 140mm fan out of a Superflower PSU.

Did you miss the part where the specification is 130mm and not 120? I don't think Nexus, or Panasonic has a fan that is 130mm. It's an 8% gain in blade size. Which covers more per cubic foot. (obviously) People need to give the products a chance.

I was wondering which direction the airflow would be on that - my thoughts would be toward the mounting side but one never knows. Well, a visit to the Tt site confirmed my thinking.

Airflow goes towards mounting side. Thermaltake usually fudges their specs a bit, often with the CFM or noise claims.

I was going to add one to my order on Friday just to check it out but it was OOS then.

It is an interesting design. The open frame design is known to make fans quieter. Specs actually state a 9V starting voltage - don't think I've ever seen a starting voltage stated for a fan except in SPCR reviews. RPM specs are tough to fake. Airflow specs in this case may actually be close to reality. Sleeve bearing is usually good for low noise. Noise... 16dBA is pretty low, would want to see what SPCR says about it.

All in all, an interesting design.

Regardless of a 10mm increase in diameter, there is no way that those fan's specs are true. Thermaltake is among the most notorious manufacturers when it comes to fan specs, or the making up thereof. The Nexus 120mm silent fan (which is the one fan that I completely trust in terms of specs, and is therefore my benchmark in the measurement of other fans) is 22.6dBA, and only moves 36cfm of air. Do you mean to tell me that a 1cm increase in fan diameter is enough to warrant an 18cfm increase and an 8dBA decrease?

I'm sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, I just hate TT's blatant false advertising since I (and others) have been hoodwinked by them in the past.

I agree with Tiamat's statement on fan reliability and quietness, and would also like to add that Cooler Master also makes some quiet 120mm fans which (I won't deny it) also have some fudged specs, but are plenty quiet nonetheless, and are nowhere near the severity of TT's dishonesty.

The funny is found :D As Zap, i too was going to buy one, just to check it out. But gained controll of my impulsive nature and did not.

I will stick with non-rebranded fans. The Delta Triple Blades i have in 92x25 and 92x38 all start/run very well @ <4V. These are in 41, 57 $ 79cfm flavors. Their 120x25 or 38 do just as well. I just got some Sanyo Denki 92x32 55cfm that start/run @ 4V, cost $6 and vibration free. Going to get some more.

Dunno, the ones from Directron.com are very hit or miss. A lot of them click at less than 12V :/

Owning a TT Volcano 9 & TT Smart Fan II was a life changing experience.
I will think twice to even consider another TT product.
It's not worth the therapy sessions ;)
