Thermaltake 680w PurePower PSU vs Ocz 520w Modstream?

How are the thermaltake PSU and modstream compared to the 600w Powerstream?

If I go with thermaltake or the other Ocz PSU, I could have the PC ready in just a few hours, rather than a few weeks. I had read great things about Powerstream 600w, but it will delay the system quite a bit. The seller claimed that the 520w Modstream would barely be enough to power my system, with little room to upgrade.

I don't plan to overlock, so how the PSUs perform in an overclocked machine is not an issue. These are my specs:

CPU: AMD64 4000+
CASE: ATX Antec SLK3000B NOPS BLACK
MOBO: DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Sli-DR
HDD: 2x Raptor 10k RPM (RAID0)
VidCard: 2x 6800 Ultras
Psupply: 600W OCZ Powerstream (Well, perhaps not anymore)
Ram: Kingston KVR 400mhz DDR NO-ECC 2gig kit
Monitor: Dell 2405FPW
Extras:Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu heatsink and a Vantec 120mm Stealthfan
Opt. drive:NEC 3520A

Thanks guys.

Well considering 2 ultras and 2 raptors, I would go with a PSU thai I know is going to be solid. For me that would mean waiting on the 600W Powerstream. The 520 Modstream lacks the +12V amps that I think you'd want for that setup.

As for TT PSU's, I think they are fine for low and mid range systems, but with the system you have setup, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable.

Do they carry the 520W Powerstream? This would probably be enough, as it is a beefier PSU than the modstream.

Is it a good quality PSU though?

I think so. Enermax makes great psus. Their quality is on par with Antec. Enermax's efficiency rating is among the highest in the industry at full load --> LINK. It was also recommended in the high-end buyer's guide by Anandtech HERE.

"PSU: Enermax EG565P-VE FMA2.0 SLI 535W has the relatively unique feature of including two 6-pin PCIe power connections (that's good for you given 2 pcie cards). You also get the 24-pin (a must today) and 12VATX connections for the motherboard, seven 4-pin molex plugs, two 4-pin floppy connections, and four SATA power adapters (you'll only use 2 of these). The 535W of total power output should be more than sufficient for all but the most extreme configurations. The only real drawbacks are similar to that of the SmartPower. With the exception of the 24-pin cable, the cables aren't sheathed, so they look rather messy. You could sheath them yourself, but that's rather inconvenient. Other alternatives include Antec with their TruePower 2.0 units, Fotron Source and Seasonic are usually a good bet." They mention ocz 600 but it's too costly at $200. Seasonic S12-500 is $130 at eWiz right now.

Another alternative for you is OCZ 520. It is excellent for $116 This has a nice build quality, shielded VGA cables and adjustable rails (in case the rails dip). It has a 5 year warranty too. Review From this Review - "The total power consumption at this load was around 592 Watts ? and the efficiency can be calculated to app. 75%, still completely satisfactory? And measured the following at the EPS-connector: 3.3V: 3.36V; 5V: 5.14V; 12V: 12.18V.

Also, Enermax has an even more powerful 651 model with 36A on 12V rail for $123.

Thanks very much.

I was getting disappointing with not having the OCZ Powerstream, but I see that the Noisetaker would make a very good alternative, so no regrets. 🙂

If you can get the Enermax, get it. I actually prefer Enemax over most other PSU brands. For their price, I think they are about the best bargain.

I have an 420w OCZ Powerstream. While it's not the 520 or 600 watter, I've been extremely happy with it. Currently running an A64 3000+ at 2.4 ghz, gig of ram, 4 hard drives, 6800nu, and 2 optical drives and the rails haven't moved. I'd definitely buy OCZ again.

The seller claimed that the 520w Modstream would barely be enough to power my system...

Unfortunately he is incorrect. Tell him you want the 520 Mod or PowerStream and to ship the system asap. You still have plenty of juice for future upgrades.

Well the modstream is modular, so that might be a selling point.
But the modstream only has 26A@+12V, while all the EG noisetakers have 36A@+12V, and dual +12V rails.

Unfortunately you are incorrect because the 520w modstream is nowhere as good as 520w powerstream. It only has 26A on it's +12v rail which makes it questionable to power SLI 6800U.

Unfortunately you are incorrect. 😛 The ModStream 520 has 28A on the +12v rail and is more than adequate for this configuration. The seller was giving this guy the runaround.
