thermalright xp-120 w/ lga775 cpu

Yea its a pain in the ass to remove but once you've done it once the next time is alot easier. I have the SI-120 but I'm sure its the same. No trick really but make sure theres enough space around it to make life easier. I remove the 2 top exhaust fans from my case before starting, I also remove my RAM because they get in the way. I prefer to push down on the clip and twist the heatsink towards the first corner I'm releasing, and gently pull it out with my finger. My motherboard does bend a bit but eh. If you can use a screwdriver into the latch, push down, and pry it off. I just find it difficult that was as theres not enough space and I kinda bent one of the fins corner that way.

Wow, someone else using an XP-120, cool. I've found the best way is with just a regular screwdriver but, a good sized one, not a small flathead. Just press down and lever out, it takes some getting used to but, it works pretty well. I do not suggest twisting the heatsink as it can bend the legs on the heatsink or the legs attached to the motherboard if not careful. Just be patient with it so you don't slip an scratch your board.

Bend the legs, the clip thing? My heatsink tends to slide around. Maybe I should of said slide instead of twist?

How did you get your screwdriver into there? I can't seem to reach the latch properly due to the size of the thing, unless the XP is different to the SI. I use the screw driver method for my XP-90 because it can be easily reached.

Yeah, the XP-120 and XP-128 were both based on the origianl design and the screwdriver method works perfectly, when they re-designed to the SI-128 it got basically impossible.

imo i don't think it's worth upgrading to the ultra extreme 120 for $60 while this does just fine, especially since CPU's nowadays dissipate alot less heat. it's alot easier than i thought, i just had to remove my mammoth 8800gt and xfi card to get my fingers into the heatsink to remove the clips. the backplate was irritating to get off too since theres a sticky pad that sticks onto the back of the mb, but i just had to pry it off... cumbersome heatsink, but it gets the job done and well, esp w/ my 120 mm panaflo!
