A new convex mirror finished base coupled to a retention system that puts 40-70lbs of pressure on the CPU.

Sounds and looks interesting to me.

I wonder if that retention system is partly there to pave the way for even larger air coolers? I'm sure having the heatsink more securely clamped would improve the ability of the mainboard to support additional weight while maintaining the full contact surface.

It took thermalright 2 years to come up with this? I expected more... but lets see how it performs.
Btw what happened to that round cyclone heatsink?

Looks like a TRUE with a megahalems mounting knockoff lmao. Probably performs about the same

Megahalems has a mounting plate that a person can lock down with extra torque?

Goddamnit I just ordered my U-120E last week...

Nice mounting bracket but I almost never ever remove the damn thing after it's mounted anyhow.

no but it puts a lot more pressure on the CPU than the TRUE mounting bracket by a wide margin. if you want extra pressure it costs $.50 for a box of washers to put under the spring loaded screws you use with it, but as is it's got a massive amount of pressure as is

Thanks. I didn't realize Megahalems used that kind of mounting system.

yea the exact explanation is it uses 2 crossbars on both sides of the CPU cooler. these screw into place and are held using a backplate. there is another crossbar which goes across the cooler similar to the TRUE, but with a significantly greater amount of pressure applied to the cooler's base. the crossbar is held in place using 2 springloaded screws, which as i noted before are easily pressure modded if you're unsatisfied with the pressure they supply. i pressure modded my cooler simply because i didnt want to lap my cooler and my IHS was a bit rounded on top, and it helped temps a couple degrees in addition to lapping my megahalems, which had a slightly rounded bottom as well. normally that's good, but combined with the chip, it was making subpar contact. the entire mod job resulted in about 7c drop in temps from unlapped and unpressure modded to the end. using the stock cooler on the TRUE however, after tightening the bolts all the way down, i could still turn the cooler under it on my buddy's I7.

Need more reviews, but looks like this thing is headed to the leader boards in performance. This guys has it destroying the TRUE Copper and Megahalems

Yep, those results make Venomous X look like a landslide victory compared to Copper True.

We will have to see how other reviews pan out. However, something tells me in the upcoming age of smaller and smaller cores increasing heat transfer from the spreader to the cooler base will become more and more critcial.

I can only imagine how tiny the hot spots will be on a 22nm Haswell if only one to four cores are active in "Turbo mode".

Looking forward to some more reviews on this, and wondering if they're going to sell the mounting mechanism seperately.

yea i was about to ask, does anyone know where they sell this? once me and shmee move our rigs to WC, were going to have a lapped TRUE laying around, and it would be great if we can remount it on his Q6600 with this instead of the shitty spring system it comes with
