I've had that cooler for years now. It went through two generations (athlon fx-53, and my current core2duo machine).
I was able to overclock both of those with ease with that cooler w/ some Panaflo 120mm fan on it, and I can adjust the fan speed from the front. I don't know anymore details about my own current computer, since I really can't look at it from here... (I'm out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on two consecutive research expeditions.. think Discovery channel.. ya I go out to sea 3-5 months/year to support these expeditions). I would know if MyAnandtech wasn't removed:thumbsdown:. My link in my sig no longer works :'(.
Now I'm itching for an upgrade. My core2duo from 2008 has served me well enough for the past 3 years.
I want an i5 2500k, and want to use my same cooler. I've found this: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10...e_Spirit_.html , so I can still use my trusty heatsink.
I'm wondering if the ultra120a is good enough to overclock the i5 to around 4.5gighz? I have an OK case too. It's an Antec.. something (has two usb, mic/headphone ports on top, a tray, and a huge fan blowing out behind the tray..). I would know what it is, if myanandtech was still around :'(. Google searching the product name for my own heatsink and its corresponding bolt-on took me 1 hour (not kidding). I'm too lazy to wait for antec's website to load to look for the model# of my case. I've attempted it, but the page timed out..blasted satellite internets.
ugh, Why myanandtech! why are you gone! I no longer have a reference to what components I have on my current computer!! I can't even look up pictures of my own computer, nor look up products quick enough due to my slow ass internet at sea!! (512kbps, shared between 5 ships, each ship containing 30-50 people.. 😡).
ANYWAYS, so, will the ultra-120A be sufficient to cool an oc'd i5-2500k to 4.5ghgz?
Thanks in advance 🙂
