Ok guys. Made some mistakes when putting this heatsink on my board and the plate that goes on the bottom of the motherboard got stuck to the board and I had to pry it off of the motherboard. In doing so the rubber like sticky pad ripped off of the mounting plate that goes on the bottom of the motherboard. From what I understand I have to replace the plate and cannot just use it without that rubbery sticky pad. I have been looking around and can only find socket 775 bolt through kits. There are 2 of them on thermalrights website and the one I really want is the one that comes with a newer mounting bracket for the heatsink that is one solid piecce instead of the one that comes with the heatink that you spread out like a pair of scissors and the other one just comes with the backplate i need and the screws. Are there any websites out there that you guys know of that have either of these parts in stock that is trustworthy to buy from? Or is there something I can do to not have to buy the kit altogether?

When i get home I will try to post pics of the plate if I can. If I have to get the kit, im really wanting the one that has the mounting bracket as well since it looks like it will make the heatsink move less and mount better.

Sounds like you'd want to contact ThermalRight directly and ask for the part. Even if you don't see it on their website, they may be able to help you out.

the pad got thrown away because I had to peel it off of the motherboard. I have called Thermalright and they dont sell parts directly they said I will have to buy from one of the resellers.

Is your backplate straight? or, did you bend it when prying it off?
if it is still nice and straight, you can use some insulated material and cut it to size and glue it to the backplate.

The main job of that pad is to insulate the metallic backplate from the pins on the motherboard as well is providing cushioning for the motherboard to avoid damaging the motherboard.

So, as long as you use an insulator and as long as you do not make it much thicker than the original so that you can still engage the screws, you should be OK.

Whatever you do, do not glue/paste anything to the motherboard.

Here's what I did. Go to the hardware store and buy some double sided foam tape. It is a little thicker than the pad that was on the backplate, but compresses when the screws are tightened so it works fine.

Clean the old pad off the plate. Use an xacto knife or razor blade and a straightedge to cut a thin strip about the same length and width as the old pad. Apply the strip to the plate using the sticky side on the plate. Do not remove the protective tape on the top side, so that when attached to the motherboard it will not stick. Add three more strips to form a square like the old pad. Works great for me. A roll of this costs only a couple bucks and will give you enough for a lifetime.

I did the same thing with a Big Typhoon when I moved it from one board to another.

I found a silicone cake pan @ Target for $7-8, it has enough material to do 3 or 4 of the backplates. It's soft, flexible, non conductive, etc. Works great on the back of my current 680i board.

Hell PM me your address & I'll send you a piece of it.

That's the one I got, no clue why it's that much on their website I definitely paid under $10 for it.
