Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme on LGA 1155?

I have this cooler on my Q6600 build right now.

I am looking at building a 2500K system, but will my existing cooler fit on a LGA 1155 socket? Are there better coolers out there now? I remember the 120 ex being one of the better ones when it came out a few years back.

That cooler is still excellent and should easily contain the overclock 2500k.

Just get the S1156 bolt thru kit.

I think this one should work too: S1156 bolt through kit .

the thing about modern cpu's and sinks is that.... these sinks were designed to hold a heat load in almost 2x what a typical sandy bridge cpu puts out b4 u over volt it beyond safe points.

So even a stock Q6600 heat sink... the bigger one, would be fine if you had a way to mount it onto the 1155 board.

You will need the Venomous X BTK mounting kit, the REV 2 or B is out of stock everywhere.
I emailed Thermalright (I bought a used True Black, Ultra 120 Extreme equivalent) and was told that. Better mount actually.
Bought a couple plastic fan holders too.

I bought an ASRock P67 Pro3 motherboard back when I made my SB build. It has the 775 socket holes right on it too. I was able to transport my TRU120 over without a problem. Still cools like a champ. A number of their 1155 boards have alternate 775 holes.

I'm a little confused with this thread. The OP asked "will my existing cooler fit on a LGA 1155 socket", but all the replies are pointing to LGA1156 mounting brackets.

I have the same problem, I had the Ultra 120 on my LGA1156 mobo, upgraded to the i5 2500K with LGA1155, and now the holes for the bracket don't line up.

I have the same problem, I had the Ultra 120 on my LGA1156 mobo, upgraded to the i5 2500K with LGA1155, and now the holes for the bracket don't line up.

LGA 1156 and 1155 are supposed to have the same hole spacing and coolers are supposed to be 100% compatible between the two.

I'm also having issues with the backplate. I had a Asrock P55 Extreme (1156) then upgraded to the Asrock z77extreme6 (1155) I went to attach my Thermaltake Ultra 120 and couldn't because the holes won't match up on the new Asrock Z77 extreme 6 with my Lga 1156 backplate. The holes are off by a few mm, what is up?
