Does anyone know where to get Thermalright Ultima 90 Fan clips that will hold fans that are 38mm thick instead of 25 mm thick. I purchased a tornado 92 mm x 38 mm and the clips did not even come close to holding it. I ended up ruining the 90 mm clips trying and just used a thinner 120 mm fan for now. i wanted to push alot of air but my sythe fan only does 65 CFM and the tornado 92mm fan does 110 CFM. I have forund 120 mm x 38 mm fan on new egg that does 133 CFM but it is 38mm thick and I run into the same problem I had as before.
Any help and Advice on what to do or where to get clips for the thicker fans is greatly appriciated.

Thank you,

First off, Welcome to Anandtech. It's a great place, been here for near 5 years.

Secondly, in the future, you'll probably get better results in a thread like this in the Cases and Cooling Forum. The full list should be on the left when you're in any forum or thread.

Finally, there is nothing listed on thermalright's website for clips for wider fans, I'll look around a bit though, I would think it exists. Besides that though, I really think you'll be happy with the fan you have on there. 65cfm is quite a bit and more than adequate for cooling even overclocked quad cores. the overall temperature difference you'd see between the65cfm and ~100 is only going to be about 3C depending on processor and voltage and ambient but, it's not all that signifigant while the sound output added is going to be trememdous, to the point of about 3 times louder.

IIRC if you use the normal 120MM clips mounted on the further awar holes and place them on the inside of the fan mounting itll work

if not just use some zip ties

also the 120 scyth will keeo your chip cool, i have a 92mm tornado and its a fing jet engine, you really dont want to run that thing at full power

had it running on a XP90 on a OCED 3200+ IIRC that kept the CPU about 4C over ambiant but man was it loud

look here

for what i mean about the 2nd set of mounting holes

Scythe DFS123812-3000 "ULTRA KAZE" 120 x 38 mm Case Fan - Retail I have always been concerned about heat from my earlier builds in the past that were hot. I have an Antec 900 case, the case came with 3 120 mm Antec 3 way switch LED blue fans; The top Blowhole 200mm fan has a 3 way speed switch as well. The case has an option of an aditional fan to blow onto the video card as well internally. I also put the optional Sythe s flex 120 mm side case fan in as well. I have a Sythe s-flex 120mm fan on the Thermalright Ultima - 90 HSF. here is a list of my computer specs.

Antec 900 case
Antec Quattro True power 1000 wat modular power supply
Intel Q6600 quad core G0 SLACR stepping with the Thermalright HS wit 1 120 mm sythe s-flex fan
Asus Sata Optical multi dvd drive
Ageia ( or Nvidia if you prefer) physix PPU card
HIS HD 3870 512 meg ddr4 PCIE-x 2.0 video card this is what gets hot and has my concern to why I want to put 6 0r 7 of these fans; here is the link from new egg-

I have a bigfoot killer nic for gaming and really love it.
2 samsung Sata 2 500 gig hard drives
a dongle for E-SATA2 out or internal.
OCZ 4 x1 gig of PC2 DDR2 800 ram
my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3r motherboard.
I have thought about usinf flash drive (SD memory with usb connector with Readyboost or a USB model of a readyboost drive but do not know what to get for the best performance;- I need two because my bigfoot killer nic has a USB port on it for bittorrent and FTP client) that helps when you need to download Iso`s).
My monitor is a FP94VW Benq flat panel LCD monitor that can use 1 D-sud ( regular analog cable, DVI, and HDMI. the HDMI I use is from my HIS HD 3870 ATI video card but has a DVI to HDMI converter to the monitor. I have not been able to get sound out of the headphone jack on the monitor for some reason.

I am useing the windows live onecare A/V ( it was 10.00 US for three computers for a year at costco so I figured why not).

I have tried several OS`s
Windows xp x32 and x64 yes i know about the 3.25 gig ram limitation on the x32 systems.
and I have used windows Vista ultimate x64- however I am not too happy about all the DRM and spying MS does with what you do on the Vista OS.

IBack to the fans first; I want the powerful fans because i want the kids to have to use mountain climbing gear to get near my computer ( i have a 3 year old little girl, 6 year old boy and a 14 year old that wants to play on my box .)
The noise is not a factor for me just plain old air cooling until I save up enough to try industreal water cooling.
I love gaming and I NEED to copy my movies and games over because my kids think anything like that looks cool to toss around and play frisbee with( the dog doesnt help either.)

Later when i can afford it I will get a NAS ethernet or E-SATA storage for backup and files with multi media to the tv through a Sling box. due to that I have IP tv.
I use headphones on my computer but will someday get these headphones

I also am thinking of getting Xbox controllers for the PCto try them on games. ight now i have a Logitech G5 SE mouse and a microsoft natural multi-media keyboard.
and last but not least a d- link g530 108 megbit PCI air premium wi-fi card for my notebook to use my internet and share files.

I know it is alot of questions just starting from a heatsink fan question but this is where I am headed ultimately. If anyone can melp out with suggections and advice I am very greatfull. Also if you know of any way to get rid of microsoft`s Spyware and DRM in Vista I would love it. i hate the idea of them telling me what i can do with my store bought software. I hate the big brother thing and treatment like a little kid like father knows best thinking they have. I definately want to get MS spy reporting because i will copy my movies over to external drive and my internal hdd`d.If I was a pirate i would not have saved up for the last 2 years for the hardware, operating systems and microsoft onecare.

Thank you,
