My first hot deal post, so be nice!

Sent today to my inbox:

Good deal, especially with the AS5. Too bad I just bought an SLK947 from SVC.

Nice deal. To bad my board doesn't have mounting holes which are needed for this HS I believe. :(

The 947 comes with clips, so I would expect the 948 does, too. The mounting holes are used for the "this is my last CPU upgrade" installation...or if you're putting it in a box you move around a lot for LAN parties, etc.

My board didn't _look_ like it had holes either, but the stock heatsink mounting bracket unscrewed from the board and the 2 holes left were exactly what I needed to mount the 948u to my Chaintech VNF3-250. The 948u does come with a bunch of different mounting hardware. Thermalright's website does have a semi-current list of motherboard compatibility. (Mine wasn't listed but worked just fine.)

How does the slk948 compare to the sp97? I've heard the sp97 is the best, but how good is the slk948 in comparison?

My socket A has no mounting holes, and from what I can deduce from their website, there is no way to clip this to a socket A board. I'd really like to jump on this if anyone can resolve this issue or tell me I'm wrong.

So, does anyone know if this can be used w/ socket A. I know it's not designed to be, but can it be made to work? :)

Intel: Pentium-4 socket-478 3.2 GHz and above", so i guess no athlonxp

You guys should wait for the Thermalright sp-120. That thing is a beast and you can never go wrong with a 120mm fan.
