How much cooling performance drop would I expect if I used a YS-Tech TMD Fan instead of a Vantec Tornado Fan on SLK-900?

I just got this heatsink but won't have time to put it on until later in the week, hope I notice a big difference.

dude, it doesn't matter what the difference is. the tornado is unbearable! i had one on 5volts and I still couldn't stand it. tornado vs. my 52cfm fan: the difference was about 5 degress. but the noise....ahhh...peace at last.

sorry. it was a swifty462U.

That's a good point- I mean, you'd get good cpu cooling if you attached an electric automotive radiator fan on your cpu, but the noise would be out of control. (and yes, you can do that, they run on 12 volts too :D)

The Tornado puts out 84 cfm I believe while the TMD is 36 cfm. For comparison sake, I went from a Tornado to a 48 cfm fan and my temps changed from 34C under the Tornado at load to 40C with the 48cfm. My guess is that you're looking at 10C+ going from that Tornado to the TMD, but on the plus side you'll be able to hear again and you won't feel that you're living next to your community airport any more.

Damn things are too loud, I've got one laying around that I use for testing maximum overclocking potential. Great CFM, but you'll go deaf or never get to sleep with it running in the same room.

Hmm...this isn't good for me. My bed is less than a feet away from the computer....and I often turn my computer on at night.

Would adding an airduct to the heatsink help a lot?

Put a 92mm Panaflo L1A on it, then, Quiet.

If you decided to go with the less powerful fan, yeah the airduct would help. If you could direct colder air from outside the case into the case, over the processor, I think your temps would go down a little more than usual.
