So now I have two of these on two different macines and I have to say I love them. They really do the job of cooling the CPU and are extremely quiet. Sometimes I have to put my ear to the machine to verify it is running. I can't get over how quite the machine has gotten. The only drawback for me was the height of the memory. I was unable to install it in a push/push configuration because the memory was in the way of the first fan. I had to put the first fan on the back end of the cooler and run it as push/pull. I have seen temps as low as 38C at idle in a serious OC mode. I love this thing. I wish I had more machines so I could buy a copule of more. Good stuff. I was previously using the Thermalright Venomous X RT and the Thermalright U120E-RT-1366 Rev. C Ultra 120 Extreme. Both do a great job of cooling but both are a bit more noisy. The Silver Arrow is so quite you will not know it is running. The fans in the case make more noise.

I went from a Corsair H50 in push/pull config to my Cogage Arrow (same thing) and my PhIIx6 at 3.8 Ghz dropped load temps about 10C and is completely silent.

I wonder how two TY-140's would do on a Venomous X, or a Megahalems for that matter. :hmm:

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking about trying this on another system. You just need the brackets to secure the fan. It's not going in that fan holder on the Venomous.

Were you using the same fans on those HSFs?

Because that should be the only thing producing noise so fan selection would be the most important factor.

Decibal levels and the rated RPM's on those fans?

I was using the fans that came with each unit. I also tried some Scythe low noise fans but the fans that come with the Silver Arrow are the most quiet. To be fair I also stopped using the Corsair Airflow memory cooling fans. They made way too much noise.

I bought the Silver Arrow to replace my broken S1283 and I just don't seem to be getting better temps with it. I'm using the stock fans that came with the arrow along with MX-3 thermal compound and I'm idling around 43 for all cores (except core 3 which idles 5c higher). My old Xigmatek S1283 would give me temps around 37C idle. My application method is just a grain in the middle of the CPU and plopping the heat sink on it and screwing down.

Thermalright make great coolers, but I see the size of these leading coolers as a major drawback.

You are right. The size is an issue. I don't get significantly better numbers but the cooler is so quiet that it more than makes up for it. The memory is just too damn close to the CPU socket. Just say a note about a new cooler from Thermalright that uses only one of the same fans on the Silver Arrow. This sounds like a home run.
