i honestly dont see the reason to UPGRADE the 8800 series cooler. Its reported to do a dayam good job, at low noise.

The only upgrade i would see being "worth it" would be a waterblock.

Even tho you upgrade it through water or aftermarket cooler, your still going to need to cool the mosfets on the card.

Anywayz, i think the stock cooler should be kept on unless your on water.

If you wanted to try and run it passive, you quite possibly do it with the Thermalright. But, the same can't be said about the Stock heatsink.

You forget overclocking...

I wonder what the r600 cooler will look like. Perhaps this will fit that card as well...

Hmm, the HR-03 plus fits on the 8800 series although its a jsut a passive cooler. I think thats asking for too much when G80s idle around 60 and reach up to high 80s when gaming on the stock HSF/fan.

that is what adding an extra fan is for. But the HR-03 run passively keeps the X1900XT cooler than stock when case airflow is good. That is one serious GPU cooler!

The cooler for the 8800 series cards is the HR-03 Plus, which does not have any reviews yet. Nice that the HR-03 works so well on the ATI cards, but I want to read some reviews on the Nvidia 8800 series cards before I purchase one.

However, as a longtime user of a Thermalright V-1, I expect the HR-03 Plus to perform quite well.

Nice looking cooler and great design, but I'd dump that money into a GTX before an after-market cooler for the GTS. As mentioned, the stock cooler does a great job and isn't any louder than 120mm fans running @1000-1300rpms

I contacted Arctic Cooling awhile back and they finally got back to me stating they were indeed also coming out with a VGA Cooler for the 8800 Series. No other info. available.
Lets hope this Cooler vents out the back like there other VGA coolers

I ordered one from Coolerguys for 49.00 shipped. There seems to be a problem w/ the HSI heatsink . On there site they said:" Compatible with Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX video cards only.
For 8800 GTS card, a seperate HSI heatsink is required (available by mid March, free to existing HR-03 Plus owners.)

NOTE: In order for HR-03 PLUS to run effectively, it is strongly recommended that a 92mm fan is installed.

Here is the first reveiw I found of this cooler . Scroll down the page and you will see the review by tommcd64

use the promo code "thankyou" for free shipping @ coolerguys. It worked for me.
Hope this helps.

So, this only compatible with 8800 and not Retro compatible with previous cards on the market such as the x1900 series? I find it odd they would make it proprietary to one card that may be discontinued in 7 months.

This looks like a great product, and I really want to get one, but....is this H/S going to void the warranty on my $600 vid card?!

Warranty is still good as long as you put stock heatsinks back on after you fry the card because you installed the HR-03 wrong LOL. I have 2 of the original HR-03's on my 7950's and they're awsome! Can't go wrong with these even if they were the same cooler with a different adapter, but they're even better! Pics here http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=29033
