I think I vaguely remember someone saying something about removing a heatsink before putting a computer in a car, is this required? This is the first computer I've built with a high quality heatsink (ALX-800, supposedly lighter than the all copper ones) and I was wondering if damage could be done to the motherboard/cpu due to vibrations in a car trip? Would it suffice to put the computer on top of some soft pillows/blankets?

If I have a heavy hsf (say slk900-a), I probably would remove it for a long trip. Just my personal view.

I would recommend laying the computer on its side so that the heatsink is sitting on the CPU. I could Imagine hitting a nice bump in the road and putting some serious downward force on the heatsink if the computer is vertical.

the alx800 ain't the heaviest thing in the world but like someon else suggested, i'd lay the computer on its side if possible

i transported my computer with my horrible driving habbits on its side with a 750gram heatsink mounted to the SOCKET,not the motherboard, on a few occations. never a problem.

i wouldn't fret...
