well my good friend called me and he asked for my opinion about his computers cpu temperature....it was over 60C (1700+ palomino not overclocked) ). He had spire aluminium cooler and 60*60 fan over it...:D...well i suggested to him that he can test my thermalright ax-7 and my blue led fan adjustable 80x80 fan over it. Well the cpu's temperature dropped to 52C and he was very interested to buy my cooler. And at the same time in our Finnish forum someone is trying to sale sk-800 cooler and now i wonder is it worth of changing??. I will loose about 10? money in this trade...thanks!!!

If it says Thermalright on it, you won't go wrong.
i have heard a few testaments to the AX-7 being more effective, as a primarily aluminum heatsink, with lower cfm fans over the copper SLK-800, but have no first-hand comparison, or even any 'official' website reviews comparing the two with a slower fan. I'd like to do some expirimenting myself one of these days....

Here's another vote for the 800. I think there's something screwy with the CPU temperature monitor on my mobo, because with an old GlobalWin CAK-38 it was giving me load temps of 80ºC, but there was no instability or flakiness in the 'puter so I think the temp sensor is a little off. With my SLK-800 I'm getting 59ºC under load, with a Panaflo L1A.

I did my own test. When I bought an AX7 for a friend I tested it against my slk900u to see how much the $30 price jump helped with temps. I tested them seperately on the same motherboard (8rda+), setup up outside of a case on cardboard with only a panaflo L1a @12v on the cpu heatsink. 2100+ @2200mhz @1.85v. USDM reported temps of 53ºC for the AX-7, and 49º for the slk900.

The AX7 and SLK800 will be within 5* of each other. Not a huge difference. I personally use a AX7, cause I prefer to have screw attachment for the fan. I'm not a big fan of the SK7/SLK800's clip "thingies."

On what motherboard is that?

That speaks well for the AX-7, but then I'd just reiterate my previous statement: You won't go wrong with Thermalright ;) There simply is no comparison.
Swiftech makes very impressive heatsinks as well, but their product line pales in comparison to Thermalright's variety. They are more expensive than all but the SLK-900, too.

It's an Epox EP8-K3A+.

I also read an article where the AX-7 beat the SLK800 on a few tests with really low flow fans. It was a comparison between the zalman 7000 (I think), slk800, and ax-7. Both thermalrights were well ahead of the zalman in nearly every test. I think you'll gain a bit of performance, but it really depends on the fan speed. My AX-7 keeps my overclocked 2100 (set to 2700 speeds at 1.65 volts) between 40 and 45 with a case temp of about 33 with a thermaltake smart fan 2 set on temp control and the probe sitting on the heat sink. Fan speeds range from about 1900 to 2500. I am currently modding my case and have my computer set up in a generic case with only the power supply fan and cpu fan. In my normal case, the case temps are about 25 and the cpu temps drop down to about 36-41.

Anyway, if you are using a high cfm fan, the slk800 will get you a few degrees more cooling. If you're using a low-flow fan, they will probably be very close to each other.

Ah, yes, the 8K3A series reads the internal diode of the cpu, as opposed to the thermistor temperature reading. It always looks high, which is why you can't compare temperature readings accross dissimilar platforms.

Yeah, I never installed the UDSM monitoring s/w before, and was pretty shocked when it gave me an 80ºC CPU temperature reading when guys here are aiming for 35-40º. I'm pretty happy that my SLK-800/L1A combo has dropped it 20º from whatever it was before, though.

Whoops, I neglected to note you're in Finland before my last post... I was tentatively interested ;)
