Ok I have some ram sinks that are collecting dust and I had some thermal tape that came with them. Well I cut out the pieces of thermal tape the best I could but if there is just a little sticking out on the sides and it hits the mem pins will it short the card out killing it?

I done put all of them on without any problems. I took a liter to each of them for like 5 secs so the tape would settle in good before I put it back in. System loaded fine but am worried there might be some tape hanging out the sides of some of the sinks.

Should be OK - the tape is not usually electrically conductive. Why not get a single edge razor blade and shave off the excess that hangs out? The main problem, as I see it, would be oozing tape adhesive.
