Blue sponge

While trying to figure out why friends notebook keep locking up.. i found that he's missing the blue square thermal pad above his graphic processor.. basically the heat pipe is NOT making any contacts...

Checking dell's site, it looks like the thermal pad or sponge square is missing. the square itself is like 1/2 " x 1/2" and about 1mm in height..

where can i buy a replacement pad before the video card burns out and is this SPONGE thing even sufficent to make thermal transfer ?

if there is something better to replace it.. please suggest.. thanks..

that pad look so thin its looks like with it on, it wont make contact with the heatsink

gap on right side

This is when the heatink is bolted down.. they use that blue sponge thermal pad to make contact.. right now.. there isn't any.. so i need something pretty thick ..

Adjust the heatsink, bend it, replace the existing pad with grease and the one that has no pad will be closer. Or replace both with the new pads, the Shin etsu are likely better than stock. Use a copper shim w/ grease, there are all kinds of ways, you just need to find the best.
