Hi
I installed my new build but now I remember that I forgot to wipe out the pre-applied paste on the intel heatsink before applygin my purchased MX2 thermal paste.
So now basically, there are both of them between the cpu and the heatsink... is it REALLY dangerous for the cpu ?

Im worried about this so I dont want to turn it on before making sure.

Thx much

It won't hurt a thing...it may make it kinda sloppy in there which will lower the efficiency of the heat sink, but no harm will come to the chip.

Not dangerous, but you might experience high temps.

Also try not to get any of it on your motherboard.

Thx guys

so I don't have to mount down the heatsink, wipe it out and reapply ?

cause Im having BIG trouble mounting the heatsink legs in to mobo... i guess it's the weakness of the gigabyte ds3p

if I dont plan to overclock anything, this problem shouldn't result in any very high temp that will harm the chips ?

No one can answer that for you unless you tell us what the actual temps are that you are seeing.

hm didn't take the chance. I removed the heatsink and cleaned it up then re-applied the MX2

hopefully, that will work

Make sure with the pushpin mounts that you've got the black push part withdrawn from the leg, so the pin is NOT sticking all the way out the bottom of the white part of the mounting pin and that you have the top oriented correctly.....that is NOT in its turn-to-unmount position but in its insert orientation. There is a line on the top of the black push part that has like a recessed wedge as part of it.......it's supposed to be with the wedge section next to the heatsink with the part that narrows down to a line facing away from the heatsink.....then you push it in.

If you have the black part already pushed fully into the white lower part before you try to push the mounts into the motherboard, you'll never get them to mount. Also, if the black top parts are oriented incorrectly, they'll never stay in the motherboard, just keep popping out.

I hate those push pins...I might suggest you purchase some aftermarket spring screws to use. They add a little bit of security.
