Thermal paste

I just put together an AMD64 3000+ rig last night, and the temps were around 47-49 deg C just looking at the bios screen. Are these temps right? I applied the Antec Silver paste, with a Zalman 7000AlCu heatsink at med-low speed.

DFI Lan Party UT NF3 mobo
AMD64 3000+ proc
1 gig Patriot PC3200 (2-3-2-5) DDRAM

How much paste do I apply? Or is it just that I need to turn up my fan?
Thanks.

Just a tiny drop in the middle of the cpu heat spreader. Too much isn't good. What's the temps while in windows or whatever os you use?

I have XP Pro, but haven't had a chance to monitor from Windows yet. Are there any programs like ASUS probe that I can use?

Do I want to spread it as thin as possible? I think I put on a little more than a 1/4 inch diameter drop on it.
