If I buy an ABIT NF7-s mobo, with a retail AMD 2500+ package, do I need to buy thermal paste? Or do they include a thermal sticky pad in the AMD package?

If its retail cpu, i believe that there should be some of that cheapo thermal grease on the bottom of the heatsink, So yes.

So if I plan to only OC the 2500+ to mabye 2800+, the retail heatsink, grease, and fan would hold me over? The case i'm getting is well ventilated, but I don't wanna go cheap where it counts, are the retail AMD components good enough?

The retail cooler will be fine up to 3200+ speeds if it's as good as the Ajigo that came with my retail 2500+.

So what you're saying is that I DONT need thermal paste, the heatsink comes attached to the processor?

no the heatsink is not attached to the cpu - how would you install it if it were;)
on the bottom of retail hatsinks is either some generic goop or more likely a wax pad so you plonk it on top of the cpu and away you go

hanks a bunch, yea I've never done this before, and I dont want to spend 11.50 on thermal paste only to find I don't need it. Thank you for the info :)

Clean the stuff off that comes on the stock heatsink/fan. If you plan to OC at all its worth it. Artic Silser 5 is the best I think. Its only $5.99 @ SVC with free shipping.

I am not sure but I believe that AMD retail uses Shin-Etsu which isn't bad at all. I mean as good as AS. Then again somewhere Ive seen, I think at Dan's Data site, that a toothpaste beats AS III, go figure. Some type of mayonaise was doing good as well. :D

Yea, toothpaste does beat as 5, but you have to reapply it every half hour or so. I think that weird brown food did as good as generic pastes I can't remember though. Once again, they don't last under the heat of a cpu though.
