Thermal Paste on RAM?

Just wondering, is there any benefit to removing the heat spreader supplied with RAM, and putting some thermal paste on the RAM chips to get better heat transfer with the spreader? Or is the spreader of too little effect for that to do anything?

I have heard that the heat spreader itself is pretty much useless. I doubt adding some thermal grease would be beneficial.

Or for covering up the brand of chips that are used. :disgust:

;)

they lower temps by like 1-2 degrees. they're nice, but not very necessary until you get near the RAM's threshhold. I like to think that the heatspreaders on my XMS are part of the reason I can get a 30% overclock out of them. :)

I like the fact that it makes the RAM easier to handle and not so static sensitive.

You know, I like the easier handling too. I hadn't really thought about it before. So there is some use for heatspreaders!
